Can we clear this up. His 5 M salary still counts against our cap till we renounce him I believe.

Why haven't we done that yet? We are over the tax line until but yet we are still retaining his rights.

Could someone shed some light on this?

So someone else might trade for him and renounce him themselves.

He counts against the cap until waived, not renounced.  He is a player under contract, not a free agent.  The luxury tax is based on the salary of the roster on the final day of the season, not prorated based on how long players on the team, so there is no pressing need to dump him immediately.  He will probably be kept until Ainge absolutely needs the roster spot, which will be when rosters have to be cut down to 15, unless Ainge can make a trade that clears some roster space.

Picture Bogans in the Arnold Schwarzenegger role and Danny Ainge in the Carl Weathers role.

Yep, though we're scarce on roster spots.

I have to wonder if we weren't scarce on roster spots if Ainge would hold on to his contract until next off season, or if he plans on letting him go just because.

We didn't manage to use him this year, but with cap space next season the potential for a sign-and-trade scenario increases, so he'd be a very valuable trade chip on that regard.

Yeah, and I'm curious to see if he's used as part of a 3 team trade (Cavs/Wolves deal) where we acquire Barea and a pick for him.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Looking forward to some Danny Boy Magic soon with Bogans. I see us in the love trade too.  :o
Hopefully it will happen. Maybe we can also trade to help out Indy too. Love to get Ian Mahinmi

I think he will be used to facilitate another major trade like Love from Minnesota to Cleveland. There could be something else in the works, too. I think there will be teams looking for salary filler and have lots of roster space available so it could be as simple as Bogans to Philadelphia for a second round pick just to get something for him.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

There is no conceivable reason that Philly would give us anything for Bogans.  If you think this to be the case, you don't understand the value of Bogans' contract.

I could definitely be wrong about this, but I am pretty sure that if we trade Bogans for a guaranteed deal it would put us in the luxury tax, or close to it.  I can't imagine ownership would OK that in a rebuilding year.

Bogans is already a guaranteed deal for all intents and purposes until he's waived.  the idea is to use his salary in a deal with multiple pieces going out and at least 2 less pieces (guaranteed salaries) coming in.  Will hopefully improve the team in some manner while clearing roster spots.

Fully expecting Danny to use Bogans' contract in a deal to move 1-2 other guaranteed deals for 1 guaranteed player in return (and maybe some other pieces).  would be stunned if Bogans, Babb and CJ are just cut after camp because they couldn't be dealt.
