i doubt anyone will care about phillys concerns.

Philadelphia's planned sink to the bottom has caused a drag on revenues in one of the league's largest markets and it is has upset some fellow teams, sources said.

wonder if the Celtics were upset.

The 76ers, sources said, are hoping to get the NBA to delay plans for at least a year because it acts as a de facto punishment while just playing by the rules that have been in place.

That's a pretty good point in favor of the 76ers, IMO.

I'm sure the 76ers are getting a lot of sympathy here.   ::)

changes to the lottery system are dumb.  I mean rarely does the worse team actually end up with the first pick.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

All they have to do is add rules about HOW often you can pick from the top FiVE......

That way teams like the Cavs and Magic don't get top three pics every year......once they get a top five they return to BaCK of the pick line

Put rules in place that LIMIT the the number of top five picks to Twice in Five Years .

Then they have to play ball and TRY to win  .  Just showing up for a cut of the NBA money

It's the same teams in the lottery every year .....that is some tired stuff ....it gets old

It needs to change .....once Hornets  land the ThE top pic ....they can NOT return to lottery of FiVe years .....no matter how terrible they are..

It really simple ...just limit number of top five pick appearances in a given number of years .

Meaning you can tank ....only two years in a row to get a rebuild boost .

Right.  But, it's not rare to see teams lose as many games as possible to ensure the best possible odds of landing that first pick.

It's the intentional losing and the essential forfeiture of entire seasons that the NBA is taking issue with.  That's why Philly is objecting, because they have no plans to field even a moderately competitive team this year.  Long term, that's bad for business.

or they are implying they want to tank another season

True, but I actually think the proposal would encourage more teams to tank because if you finish in the bottom 5 you would have the same shot at the #1 pick as the worse team.  Thus, you are now encouraging bad teams to ensure they are in the bottom 5 i.e. more teams tanking.

I hate this idea.  Making it possible for teams with a record such as Cleveland's to jump ahead of significantly worse teams in the draft order is how you make the idea of tanking less valuable.  Is anyone claiming that the Cavs tanked to get a better shot at the #1 pick?

I just think that if you won the lotto, you are not allowed to be in the top 3 the next 5 years

this is all about control. The NBA wants to retain more control so they can 'fix' the lottery and give the #1 to whoever they want. So the more teams with a chance, the easier it is for the league to control the draft lottery.

I think this sentiment is mostly just whining about the Cavs, as if fate somehow robbed the Celtics, when Cleveland winning this year is arguably how the lottery should work.

Does that mean that the lottery hasn't been fixed since they last changed it?

That is type of rule I think we need to see......yes.....your right.........making tanking over two years NOT possible ......once you win ..a top five pick......you can either play ball or tank ....but go to back of the line if you tank three years in a row for next five .

You need to PLAY BALL.  And quit playing around trying to land the next LBJ.
