First off, we never have luck in the lottery, and so tanking this season and then getting a pick between 6-10 would be IMO, a bit of a failure in regards to tanking for the top 5 pick.

More reasons:
1. Our roster is much better than last year's and we got 25 wins last year. We can probably get anywhere from 30-45 wins next season and potentially get a playoff spot. It all depends but we should get more wins this year than last year.
2. Boston is a city that holds pride in winning, and while many here would support tanking, a majority of people living in Boston would despise it again this year.
3. Teams like the Bucks/76ers are likely to get a high lottery pick again.
4. What if we fail this season in regards to getting a top 5 lotto pick, what's next? Tank again 2015-2016?!!
5. Tanking won't help in luring FA next season to Boston, they will think we won't have any chance 2015-2016 season. Winning more games and potentially getting a playoff spot makes it more enticing for FA to sign in Boston.

Just my thoughts as to why I feel we should try to win more games next season, and maybe compete for a playoff spot in the East. Also, before posting scouting vids about potential lottery-bound draftees like Okafor on this post, realize that last year lots of people hyped about us getting Embiid, Wiggins or Parker. Instead we got Smart at 6, and while I still like that move a lot and think it's a steal in the draft, the celtics probably would have got smart even at pick number 20.

I'm more concerned about player development than wins and losses. If they make the playoffs with Sullinger/Olynyk/Smart/Young being major contributors, that would be great. I just don't want them to play mediocre vets just to pull out a couple extra wins as that doesn't give us any real long term benefit.

Well, "people" is a generous descriptor for "trolls," but yes.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Never stopped teams before.

I think the much better is debatable.   I see us winning 7 more games.  I do not see us winning 20 more but I would like to be wrong there.

I am not wanting to tank but with the team comprised as it is do we have a choice.  No one wants this but so far, Ainge and the market has not allowed us to improve.  I am sure Ainge didn't want this and I am sure you don't and I do not.

So will we, I would guess.

So making the playoffs and getting a lower pick is better why?  The team is built to tank.  Our frontline aside from Green is horrible defensively.   I hope Zeller is an improvement. I hope our guys improve and gain in value so Ainge can pull a 2007.

Free agents never come here unless we are close to contention.  We have got ring chasers in the past not marque free agents.

We will tank for the next couple years. We're not contenders. next season we will be in the running with orlando and philly to be the worst team in the east, especially if the bucks win more games because of jabari. btw we're not even better than last year. crawford and hump won us so many games last year and we dont have either now since we got a return for those assets.

we are so far from contending its not even funny.  no reliable scorers or number 1 option. no shooters. no stars minus a gimped rondo. a bunch of question marks at all positions. we dont know if we're keeping rondo past the trade deadline, or what contract he will demand. we dont know who are starting shooting guard is, and we have zero confidence in our starting small forward, and our front court is a mess of either undersized, overweight, or inexperienced problems.

danny ainge was only calling minnesota for Love to see if he can lowball them an offer and to get fans to buy season tickets with false hope.  as soon as golden state got into the convo, it was over for us. cavs only made sure we were done. Danny called the cavs on draft night and offered #6 + Sully for #1. thats what he does.

get used to scouting high schoolers at every level, because we'll be doing that in hopes of seeing who will come out on top every years next draft as we tank every year.

Past lotteries are irrelevant to future lotteries.

People like to throw around the 'tank' term. We won't be good. That will mean a lot of losses.

No, the Celtics don't tank!

They might lose fifty plus games, but they don't tank. Just ask Danny!

That's right, just like when business owners write off workers as 'independent contractors' to avoid having to provide them with health benefits, or how insurance contracts were called 'swaps' to avoid regulations during the financial crisis, let's act like adults and just call tanking something else ::)  How mature.  What are we, 2nd graders?  You couldn't get away with that crap then, so why can people get away with that now?  Sorry, it just p---es me off.

Better to tank and get lottery pick than win enough games to do nothing.

We have no stars , no hope of competing .....we told the believer crowd last year......they fussed

No Love , no stars...no fast rebuild

Slow rebuild based on draft picks

It on ......

DA thought he could rebuild fast.....backfired

Should have tossed  Bass off ...tanked full tilt for top three draft pick.....DA dropped that ball..wrong call

We screwed that up

So now must try again.

Just pray this is the last full tank year......maybe we get lucky ...maybe not

Just hope don 'to need to tank for a center or star player three years in row ...

But it might happen

Oh, come now, you know that that never works (for us, anyway).  Maybe if we traded our pick for one from a team with a similarly-projected record, we might get lucky.  The lottery machine just doesn't seem to like the sight of green, so we'll have to circumvent it ::)  I would laugh so hard if such a thing actually worked ;D

I would bet a large some of money that this team does not win 40+ games this year.

We're obviously not a playoff contender, so there's not much incentive to be good right now.  Developing the kids should be the top priority this season, even if that leads to a lot of losses.  If that's Danny's perspective, I'm fine with it.  If he's thinking about the long-term success of the franchise instead of pretending that we're going to win a title this season, that just makes him a reasonable person.

Do you call that "tanking" or common sense?
