Kendall Marshall

He was released by the Lakers today, as they needed to clear cap space to for their Carlos Boozer bid.  He's on a minimum contract that's non-guaranteed -- I'd love to see the Celtics claim him off waivers.  I think he'd be a definite upgrade over Pressey, and if he isn't, you can always release him after training camp at no cost, as he's not guaranteed.  Rumors are the Lakers will re-sign him if he clears waivers.  It's not a franchise altering move, but it would be a free acquisition of talent, and that never hurts.

Would anyone else like to give him a chance?

Seems way too redundant.  He's a third string point guard and the team's already got their third string project in Pressey, whom they've just guaranteed for the season.  I don't really see much purpose in another pass first point guard with weak shooting who's there just to fill out the deep bench.

(And yes, I know he shot surprisingly well from deep last year, but he's got a really mechanical set shot and his shooting percentages started to tail off as defenses began to respect him).

You know everyone, I did say I wanted him as a potential replacement to Pressey, right?  Pressey's contract is guaranteed, sure, but it's cheap and easily written off if Marshall is better.  And if Marshall isn't better, you can release him and not have to pay him a dime.  I'm not saying let's get a fourth point guard.  I'm saying let's have a competition at the end of the roster.  Sheesh.

Pressey vs Marshall = no difference

You can focus on 3 pt shooting but defensively Pressey is much better.  Overall both are 3rd string pg's

Seriously the point guard position is so stacked around the league that a player even as good as Rondo loses value.  Having a plus point guard is equivalent to having a league average point guard.  That's why, if Rondo is our best player we have such little roster advantage regardless of how good Rondo is and are likely to be deep in the lottery unless someone makes a leap at another position on the roster.

He is not good enough to crack what is a sweet 4 guard rotation in a Rondo, Bradley, Smart, Thornton. Development minutes will go to Young. And 6th guard insurance should go to a guy like Pressey who wont make a peep if he is benched for 8 games in a row.

One of my favorite young players in the league.

Very Ricky Rubio-like - brilliant passer, bad defender, shoots the ball better than Rubio, a bit awkward release leads to inconsistency. 9 assists per game and 3.2 ASS/TOV ratio - both top notch for PG. Still 22!

I don't mean we should target him specifically - logjam at PG, Smart to develop, no rosters spots, etc...I have however my small hopes that if Danny makes some moves in the next days, we could somehow clear a spot for him.

No denying Steez is hilarious in general and above, but he might actually be the worst comparison to Marshall. It is like saying Rondo is like Curry, 'cause both are the same height.

Yes definately.  Kendall has good potential and would be a nice 2nd string PG.  Babb needs to go and I'll assume eventually Rondo is gone too.  So that would give us smart/Marshall?pressey at the point.  Marshall may even be able to play some tweener as a SG similar to Smart.  He'd be another nice young piece to try and develop.

I get what you're saying. It's good thinking.  Got alot of know it all former NBA scouts/players on the blog that's all
