Yes. Fegan aiming for 5-yr max. RT @BrianGaranich: @DarrenWolfson With all this Love trade talk, they actually talking w/ Rubio/his agent?

Wolfson seems pretty reliable, and most of ESPN has released information at how Rubio would love to get paid more, or become the franchise player.

My thoughts?

I think if the Wolves are smart... They'll try to find a team that would take him for a max contract, ship him out for prospects, and picks, and chalk this up to a full re-build. Build exclusively from the draft.

You got Dieng, Muhammad who is doing pretty well in SL and looks a lot more slimmer. Zach Lavine has a lot of serious potential, and Shved is still young enough. Either way the Wolves aren't the greatest free agent destination, so they should try to make the best of it by trading whatever they had, and go all out for young prospects. Do the Wolves seriously want to see a team that has Ricky Rubio as a max contract player, eating up their cap space, while he bricks another wide open three?

It's based on your perspective, quite simply
We're the same and we're not; know what I'm saying? Listen
Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

No one's going to max him out and he's a RFA, so the Wolves will retain him on a lesser contract.

Rubio is the worst shooter since Chris Dudley.  Any team that offers Rubio more than 8-9M is making a mistake.  He single-handedly incapacitates an offense due to spacing issues, in spite of his flashy passing.

Isiah Thomas just signed for 4 years, 28M.  He averaged 20 and 6 with a PER over 20.  No way Rubio is a max player.

fat chance. Rubio has his strengths, but his shooting is too bad to give him the max.

I almost blew my drink out of my nostrils after reading the title of this thread.

Rubio is terrible. He is maybe the 25th best point guard in the NBA. He is no where near max talent.

Ricky Rubio: Hey, Flip my contract is coming up, could I ask for the max?
Flip: Bwahahaha
Ricky Rubio: Come on Flip, I deserve it.
Flip: Bwahaha, tell me you're joking.
Ricky Rubio: Please?
Flip: No.

A max contract from their D-League affiliate?  Am I the only one who has seen this guy air-ball an open layup?
Philly:

David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa

His passing and court vision deserve a max contract.

As a total package? Decidedly not.
