I think they did renounce Udoh.

That's not the same as renouncing, but the Bucks aren't planning on keeping him around.  Renouncing him is merely a formality until he signs with another team and makes it moor.  Or heck, he re-signs with Milwaukee, since they can still use the cap room gained to sign him to a contract.

I wonder if it'll be another S&T, Bucks have a small trade exception they could use (depending on how much the deal is for), so that could be an option. But I don't expect much value in this one.

Unless Bayless is getting a big raise, I don't think it would be.  They have the cap room.

By my estimation, they don't. They have their exceptions and the trade exception. Unless they renounce Ekpe Udoh, which wouldn't surprise me... but doing so for Bayless, and losing all your exceptions to do so? Yeah, I don't see it.

Assuming they renounce Udoh, they have more cap room than the MLE and their trade exception.  Why wouldn't they renounce them?  Sure, they lose a $3.5 million trade exception. They gain $12 million in cap room, which can be used just like a trade exception.  They lose the $5.3 million MLE, but they gain $12 million in cap room, which can be used just like the MLE.  Except in both cases, they have more in cap room than the exceptions.

Sure, they could sign-and-trade, but it would strictly be a kind gesture to the Celtics.  There's nothing that organization gets out of it.

You can't use cap room AND the exceptions. Essentially if you use cap room then the only thing you have is the room exception and vet. minimum (and bird rights and what not).

Edit: Sorry misread your post... tired and can't read well. Give me a sec to respond correctly.

Yep, you're correct. I really can't find a fault to gaining cap room at this moment. So yeah, they'll probably straight up sign him.

Charles F. Gardner: A source indicates Bucks in discussions with PG Jerryd Bayless on 2-year deal worth $6 million to $7 million. @Marc Stein first reported. Twitter @cf_gardner

Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Been waiting on an update here.

Depending on where in that range Bayless' first year falls, he just might squeeze into the Bucks' TPE.

As saltlover says, this would be a favor to the Celtics; there's not a whole lot of incentive for the Bucks to do so. I wonder if it'd be worthwhile to add a 2nd rounder to Bayless to gain another TPE. Perhaps not.

Jerryd Bayless was a beast in summer league in 2008, he never got a real chance to showcase his talent with the big boys. However he has proven himself as a legit NBA-worthy player and he seems like a good guy. You do you Jerryd, shame we couldn“t keep you.

A sign-and-trade would also require a third year be added to the deal.  This can be an unguaranteed year, but either Bayless or the Bucks might not wish to change that portion of the contract.  I don't see one happening, but as there's limited value to the Celtics (already with a $2 million and $4 million exception), I wouldn't be too upset about it.

Good for Jerryd!  Seems like he'll also get a raise in this summer of big contracts.

The hope, for Larry Sanders fans, should be that Bayless can be combined with Bogans, Smith, and Babb to bring back Sanders for draft considerations.  If you're not a Larry Sanders fan, I suppose this can be your fear.

Is this even possible?  I know that Sanders is a knucklehead but he's the type of rim protector ("Uh..Beavis...you said 'rim protector'") that we need.  Combos of Rondo/Smart/AB/Green/Sanders would be pretty nasty on defense and maybe they get some offense out of Thornton/Sully/KO.

Possible?  Sure.  He makes $11 million this year, and Bogans, Babb, Bayless and Johnson combine for about $10 million.  So the salary works.  I'm sure there's some number of draft picks that Milwaukee would go ahead with this deal.  I don't see it happening, at all, that's why I called it a "hope".  But it's possible.

EDIT:  Now, if you really want to get creative, and Milwaukee (and Bayless, since his contract would be changing) is up to it, you could send them Bogans, Bayless, Babb, and Johnson and a pick for Sanders in one deal, and send Zeller in a separate deal, which they absorb with their trade exception.  (Zeller cannot be traded for 2 months in a deal where his salary is aggregated to match another salary, but in this case, it wouldn't, since he fits into the Bucks' TPE).
