Quote
NBA teams that have won at least one title will be honored in a cool way next season.

To recognize past champions, those 19 teams will have a gold designation on the back of their jerseys during the 2014-15 season. Conrad Burry spotted the addition while looking through the Adidas catalog that retailers will use for the upcoming season.

The Boston Celtics (17) and the Los Angeles Lakers (16) have a pile of championships, but they will reportedly only have one gold mark on their jerseys. That means fans won't be able to tell if the Chicago Bulls (six) have more titles than the Dallas Mavericks (one) just by looking at the uniforms.

If they did do a mark for every championship the C's would have a jersey full  ;D

How much money do they need? I won't be shocked if they start selling them. Complete Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.s, the NBA will do anything for a buck .

19 teams?

I guess that means Indiana and Brooklyn will get credit for their ABA titles, plus OKC gets credit for the SuperSonics (which they shouldn't, they willingly left the trophy and banners behind in Seattle!)

just to recognize past champions... i don't see the reason why they need to do this unless for another jersey profit..... if they're doing this for a defending champ then I'll be more agreeable... like a "Defending Champ" sign at the top..

I'm not really the biggest fan of this simply because I don't see what a team's current players have to do with their past players.  What does Chris Johnson have to do with Bill Russell?  Why would a guy like Monta Ellis be wearing the same status symbol that Dirk worked his butt off for?

It would make a lot more sense if they put a gold mark on the jerseys of players who have a ring.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

This sounds like a ploy to tack on more coin so the NBA can make more money selling jerseys! :P

Meh. At least it's pretty unnoticeable.

It would be better if either:

A) There was some indicator of how many championships that team had won. I'm not just saying this out of Celtic pride, either, just in general it seems kind of pointless to invoke past glory in such a vague way. Though this has the problem of cluttering the uniform, so I think I prefer ...

B) It was only the defending champs. Yeah, it would be kind of weird for players that leave their championship team the next season (LeBron), at least it would be a temporary, transitory thing. It would be kind of cool, actually, if they did it this way.

But, yeah, not a big fan. At least they it isn't too obvious and conspicuous, though. I'll probably forget all about it and not notice it again until halfway through the season.

they should put the number of titles in the gold mark or it should just be for the defending champion.  anything else is just silly.

Very good point

Pretty stupid & pointless.

They're just slowly (or not so slowly) pushing the envelope of what's going on the jerseys to try and ease in the idea of the real end goal here; advertisements.
