Young should start the year in the D-League

Hummm, well, I'd like Young to come into training camp and play so well that he takes the starting job at one of the wing spots. 

But, yeah, if that doesn't happen then I expect him to be on the Maine Shuttle for a lot of the season.

I wish he got the opportunity to play in summer league. It would have been great for his development. But I understand his neck comes first.

Peopl said Giannis Antetokounmpo was realy raw and a project, they played him last year and he panned out fine.

I'm in the PLay Young and Smart and let them find themselves Camp. Trade AB and fully invest in Smart. I mean I like AB but with a Log Jam, some have to go. Philey liked him, trade him for McDaniels and some filler or something.

I don't think it will matter much that Young didn't play in the summer league.  Training camp and the preseason are far more important.

Let's see how this guy looks in practice and pre-season before deciding if he should start out in the D League.  Could catch on quick.  I doubt it, but too soon to decide.

If Young is good enough to earn 10 minutes a game, he could always just travel to Portland for certain games on off-days for the Celtics.

Even if he only earns 5 minutes or 0 minutes early in the season, I still think he should be with the team for those first couple months, and then do a stint mid-season.

he has a nice shot BUT he's behind two very good defenders at sf and to me he doesn't have the build to guard nearly all the sf in nba
so if he is looking for minutes at sg, bradley, smart, thorton and even green (i like green and wallace on floor together) no time there
unless he wows in training camp he's d league bound

I think Smart, Young, Bradley, along with Rondo is the Celtic future backcourt.  Thornton is just here, like GW is here--necessary parts of a trade!  Neither one should see time unless we somehow find ourselves in realistic contention(not happening with present roster!).  Young should split time with JG at SF also.
Sully splits time with KO at PF, and Zeller splits time with KO at C, along with Fav. 
IMO, Thornton, Wallace, Bass should get minutes on the second unit.  It won't be enough to keep them happy.  Again, we're not going to be in contention for anything, so who cares if they're happy.
Pressey, CJohnson, and JAnthony are strictly holding roster spots.  Moser and Bertans are possibles.  Maybe Colton Iverson, too!
If possible you get rid of Anthony, Bass, Wallace and Thornton and keep Pressey, CJ, Moser, and Bertans, or substitute CI for a third string banger!

Can't see Young getting even the 10-15 mpg that the OP suggested. He is just too raw and needs time. I say he gets a ton of DNP-CDs or is just not dressed for most games until he goes to the NBDL and plays the year in Maine.

I fully expect Young to spend most of his rookie season in D-league improving his game.  Can't see any time for him in Boston behind Rondo, AB, Smart, Thornton and Pressey.

I disagree with this idea.  The level of competition in the NBA is vast superior to the DLeague, not to mention coaching and the number of games.  I am not sure what the roster would look like for next season, but I could envision a scenario where Young will play 20-25 minutes a night.

It is unlikely that Young will play 20-25 minutes a night.  Unless Marcus Thornton pulls a Keith Bogans and gets himself kicked off the team, there will be few minutes for Young not at the end of blowouts.  Stevens for the most part doesn't play guys who don't deserve it.  I do agree that the D-League is inferior, and the style of play might inhibit Young's growth.  But the minutes won't be there for Young this year, and I doubt the Celtics had much expectation they would be when they draft him.

Agree with the OP.  Or he can just split time with the C's and travel to Maine to play games.  Both would be beneficial at this point.

I think there's going to be a lot of disappointed fans since we all want Young to get minutes, but realistically he's at the bottom of the depth chart right now.  Just need to be patient and let him develop over the years.

Well, Stevens did start KO undeservingly at the beginning of the last season.  Vitor got some undeserved playing time as well.  Not that I cared since it made more sense to play the youngsters given how terrible our team was. 

 But overall you're probably right.  Stevens gave time to those who deserved it by the end of the year.  Best thing about him is he doesn't have a stringent rotation, and will stick with players for longer stretches of time if they're playing well.

One of Young's reported weaknesses is a lack of defensive fundamentals.  While I won't say he should be in Maine at the start of the D-League season, it should absolutely be an option that is on the table, depending on how far along he is on learning how to play defense.  If he is progressing well in practice despite limited game minutes, I can see him staying with the main roster instead of being sent down.

He might be the sort of player who they should be willing to bring along slowly and make him earn his minutes to avoid feeding a sense of entitlement about playing time.
