pressey is a point guard
do we need a cheap third string guard is the question

someone is going, bogans, babb, johnson, pressey

Yes especially with the uncertainty of rondo remaining with the club
ugh, no rondo on this team they'd be hard to watch

I enjoyed watching a rondo and crawfordless team last season. I want this situation to be done with already. Smart was not drafted 6th to be coming off the bench in the long run

So far our PG:
Rondo - Smart - Thornton - Pressy

Yeah most likely we won't sign Pressy...

I'm not saying we will or won't keep Pressey, but Marcus Thornton is more likely to play the 3 in small lineups than he is to play PG.

Thornton's a combo guard, so he also be an emergency/third-string PG. But Pressey is cheap and Thornton's probably only here for a month or months. Also, there's a risk that Rondo would go, though they'd likely bring some other PG in in replacement. In sum, I think Pressey sticks.

I think we keep Pressey because he's an NBA player. I think Bogans, Johnson and Babb all get dealt before the season. Hopefully for someone who can protect the rim.
If we keep Pressey, it's because he comes dirt cheap. He's quite far from a legitimate NBA player at this point of his career.

I think Pressey looks like he'll make a great 3rd pg on a roster.  I just don't think many teams worry about being that deep at that position.

Yes, you're right that not many other teams will keep a 5'10 guard who can't shoot or defend when they have 2 guys ahead of him -- usually one of their other guards will be completely adequate as a third-string fill-in instead.

Pressy's contract becomes fully guaranteed tonight at midnight

We can waive him before midnight and save some money. What do people think, should we keep Pressy or not? I think with Bradley and Smart and a healthy Rondo, I would waive him and use the money elsewhere.

I'm not sticking up for Pressey as a player but having seen the years of utter garbage Boston trotted out as starting pgs before Rondo, let alone the pgs they've had coming off the bench, I'll repeat that if a team wants to carry an extra point guard, a guy like Pressey who plays pretty hard and has legitimate pg skills wouldn't be a bad option compared to another combo guard who might be a little bigger but completely useless at trying to do any of the things point guards are supposed to do.

The Celtics aren't going to find a 3rs string PG any better for the money. The fact that we care about this is what bothers me. If Pressey, or any other 3rd string PG is starting or playing reasonable minutes for this team then we are in big trouble. He is a nice backup(especially for the money) for 10-15 minutes per game if one of either Rondo or Smart were to get hurt for a few games. If we are asking for anyhting more than that than there was no reason to draft Smart. When Rondo is taking a break, those minutes should be Smart's. I like Pressey, but he has no business playing over either of the guys ahead of him. I would however, rather have the extra PG than either Babb or Johnson if we are seriously going to talk about the 13th, 14th and 15th roster spots.

If that saved money can actually bring in a player that can see some court time, I agree.  PP has played hard and had a few stretches of decent games.  But I wouldn't be upset if he is waived.

I'd rather see Pressey get paid than watch Wyc + company save a couple bucks (comparatively speaking) for someone else that might not end up walking through that door.

Agreed.
agreed, agreed. hopefully, hopefully pressey develops a 3 point shot. if so, he becomes a good backup pg at a very low price. low risk, medium reward.

Keep Pressey, and either Chris Johnson or Mike Moser. Let go of Babb, Bogans. And we have our roster of 15 barring any additions via trades.

Rondo - Smart - Pressey (PG)
Bradley - Young - Thornton (SG)
Sullinger - Olynyk - Bass (PF)
Green - Wallace - Johnson/Moser (SF)
Zeller - Faverani - Iverson (C)

Analysis: Mike Moser is regarded as PF but he can play SF as well, as mentioned by Larranga and NBATV summer league. Plus he could fit in at SF well behind Green/Wallace. Also, Iverson probably gets in unless the Celtics add another big like Jason Smith to the roster via MLE signing.

As far as I know Joel Anthony is still taking a roster spot correct?  He opted in..
everyone seems to leave him off the roster lists

Lets not go crazy with the "good", even if he does start making some threes. (I'd settle for any shots at all)
