maybe they're all busts as well.
that's a bit of a knee jerk reaction

That's a sarcastic response after seeing the Smart being a bust thread (I think).

I think the summer league is vital to introduce rookies to the style of the NBA and to give more PT to sophomores. Young players need to realize the speed, physicality, and rules of the NBA game. How much quicker you must get off a shot with the shot clock at 24 sec. Instead of 35. How much spacing there is on a court with an NBA 3 point line, and what fouls you can and can't get away with in the league. Yes the summer league is sloppy and that's because it's the equivalent of a group of young kids at a basketball camp, or a orientation at a college. It's sloppy cause all of these players are learning.

It is horrible basketball in terms of quality but a well needed fix for us basketball junkies.

Nailed it. The bottom of the shelf is still going to get you drunk, even if it doesn't taste like it should.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Oh but the bottom shelf does taste like it will get you drunk. And that you will feel awful the next day.

Maybe a better metaphor is food. You might prefer filet, but you'll take a fast food burger if you have to (hungry, long cross country drive, that sort of thing).
Celtics fan for life.

Just thought I would share solid numbers pulled from Summer League

Points/FG%/REB/AST
Andrew Wiggins
15.0   .345  3   0
PJ Hairston
14.5  .222  1   0
Zak LaVine
12.0  .304  5   2
Nik Stauskas
12.0  .368  1   2
Jabari Parker
14.0  .346  10  1

Guess Smart doesn't look quite as bad or maybe they're all busts as well.

You left off Moser....
13.6   .430

Are you happy Smart a 6 pick looks no better than the undrafted guys and guys drafted in the 20s?

Sounds like the typical excuses you hear with a mediocre pick and the kind you never hear after a Joe Johnson, Rondo or Al Jefferson quality pick.  Or even a Ryan Gomes.

Because those guys I'm sure played so well in their summer leagues? Don't understand how that sounds like a typical excuse, there is a clear difference in style and difficulty between the NBA and college. That is the main reason of summer league for rookies is to bridge that gap. And by the way, let's be honest how many of us wish Rondo would shoot numbers like the ones listed earlier from the field?

Hold your horses, there. In summer league, there are no teams- only individual players. The real value of a player is judged by how well he plays in his assigned system, with his teammates.

The only thing we know from summer league is that there are d-leaguers who can play a better game of twenty-one.

If we went by summer league numbers, everyone on here would've drafted Greg Ostertag over Tim Duncan....Tag abused Duncan when Tim started out his career in the league.  Tim got rejected, rejected again, and rejected once more. Their matchup:

•Tim Duncan 14 points/6 of 10 FG/8 rebs/3 assists/2 blocks
•Greg Ostertag 21 points/7 of 12 FG/10 rebs/0 assists/5 blocks

You can't gauge jack crap from summer league. Duncan had come into summer league as the king of basketball, with all the potential in the world. He left with his head between his legs.

Now what is Tim doing ?

I take it you mean "Are you happy Smart played as well as the number 1 and 2 pick in the draft?" and the answer is yes I am.

More importantly he showed me he has an elite ability (defense) that will get him on the court right away, not to mention solid passing, ball handling skills, and an ability to draw fouls and get to the line.

Cream always rises to the top and stays there.   Good players will emerge and stay good.   Summer league is too make cash in the off season.     They charge like $15 to watch the games online.

Did you actually watch the game to know that Duncan walked off the court with his "head between his legs?"  Anyway, his numbers actually look pretty good.  Some of the high profile Summer Leaguers would love to have his stat line.

Just curious, how did Rondo do in summer league? I can't remember. Just remember how awesome he was in pre-season of rookie year, especially a game vs. Toronto he single-handedly stole.

I like the LV Summer League better than ORL.  LV has the crowd, just more exciting, and it makes the level of play look better too. Also more teams are in it, I think.
