Just thought I would share solid numbers pulled from Summer League

Points/FG%/REB/AST
Andrew Wiggins
15.0   .345  3   0
PJ Hairston
14.5  .222  1   0
Zak LaVine
12.0  .304  5   2
Nik Stauskas
12.0  .368  1   2
Jabari Parker
14.0  .346  10  1

Guess Smart doesn't look quite as bad or maybe they're all busts as well.

Hood went off for like 4 or 6 straight 3 pointers tonight, but your point certainly stands.

Summer League is so over analyzed.

Also, since you didn't include it, Smart averaged 14.8 ppg / 4.2 boards / 4.2 assists / 29.4% from the field (a team low) / 25.7 3ptfg% :-X

Not bad and I think he'll be a good player in a season or two.  He ended the summer league looking a lot better at the end, I wouldn't be surprised if he was 1st team all-rookie

That's a sarcastic response after seeing the Smart being a bust thread (I think).
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Summer league is a completely dif beast, imo. But it does help players gain knowledge on what they need to work on to be successful in the pros.

Little coaching, no real plays, massive hacks at a number of positions.  If you have an outstanding defensive rebounding team and your guards get out and run, you can have a decent looking offensive numbers - but the environment in general, just doesn't allow for it.  I suppose those that will make their living 25 ft from the hoop stand a better chance of looking good.

These numbers clearly show that playing in the summer league is really not benefiting these young players much.  The play is disorganized, it doesn't appear they are learning any system or fundamentals, it may hurt their confidence, and there is a risk of injury.  It makes me wonder if teams will either just quit the summer league or restructure it so it is more beneficial to the players and the teams.

Taking the Celtics, I am not sure this helped Smart, Olynyk could have done without, Young didn't even play, and I am not sure Pressey needed it.  It is a chance to discover a non-drafted player that was overlooked and could be the 15th guy on the team but is it really worth it for that?

Seems to me it would be better to just start training camp a week or so earlier (with young players only) and invite some of the non-drafted players in.  Maybe even have a couple of scrimmages against other teams before the vets show up.  Then just roll into regular training camp with the veterans and whoever is left of the young players.

Summer league is good for checking out

(1) iso ability
(2) ability to stand out physically
(3) instincts from point guards

These things are all because the play is so disorganized. That means there's a lot of opportunity for one-on-one. Like in the D-league, most guys try to win their iso in order to stand out instead of taking advantage. Point guards can exploit this and get some easy assists if they manage to find savvy targets.

Throw shooting percentages right out the window. Take personal fouls with a grain of salt, too.

Look at who is getting assists, steals, rebounds, and blocks.

Nerlens Noel is winning summer league. Maybe the Cavs should be trying to trade for him instead...

Absolutely.

I posted these numbers mainly for the Smart is a bust crowd.  I've read too many commentaries on Smart's poor shooting followed by the endless praise of so many of the names you see listed above.  I can't predict how good Smart will be....I can't even say that he'll be a good starter in the near future, but anyone who's a C's fan should recognize no matter what our rebuild approach is we need Smart to be one of 3 stars...We need a John Wall, Damian Lillard, or Dwayne Wade.  We need Smart to surpass our expectations.

I think he has the tools and look forward to watching him develop...

i believe it is time to take your sarcasm meter in for its annual check up.  :)
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
