Okay, apparently Evan Turner is crazier than I thought?

http://www.crossingbroad.com/2012/03/and-now-a-story-about-evan-turner-being-nuts.html

I thought that he just had anger management problems or something, but I guess that it's something else.  Even if this report is true, being bipolar doesn't mean you're crazy.  I can only hope that he gets the help he needs.

That aside, I'm surprised that Charlotte wouldn't take a flyer on him after missing out on Gordon Hayward.  He'd be another playmaker at the sf spot, and that could actually work out well for both sides because Kemba, imo, is more of a scoring point guard than a facilitator.

This. There's such a stigma with mental illness in sports, I wonder why any player would want it to be public knowledge. The joking and backlash they get from fans and media can't be conducive to healthy support system.

With that said, it seems as if bipolar is just thrown around whenever someone displays eccentric behavior and/or anger management issues. The article really doesn't refer to any specific evidence that he is actually bipolar. Sounds more like he's just a jerk.
Im gonna stop reading cuz rj87 is correct. I HATE when people in the spotlight do something bad and then blame it on a recent diagnosis of bipolar or something else. That makes the people who truly have bipolar look like idiots and opportunists...Unfortunately, there is such stigma with mental illness because in our society we have jerks like Jesse Jackson Jr that use it as an excuse tom avoid prison after they commit crimes.

I guess the biggest reason id that people hide it because of the stigma. So many people go through life not knowing that someone close to them has a mental illness. And even less people are forced in a position to help advocate for a loved one with mental illness....even sever depression can be crippling.

You could have stopped after the first part of the second sentence that I just highlighted.  Sigh.

And isn't that what we need? A playmaker at SF

Yes, and no.  Ideally, I'd like all of our players to be able to pass and make plays for themselves and their fellow teammates, but that's not the issue with Turner.  His odd shooting form and lack of range are the two factors that hurt him the most.  He has to have the ball in his hands to be effective - he can't come off of screens, picks, or pin-downs (at least, I don't think he can, anyway).  Yes, he's a good passer and ball handler, but can he play off of the ball?  That is a serious question, btw.

The Celtics are in the Asset Collection stage so anyone who's got potential who you can buy low on....I'd say do it.  He's certainly not going to determine whether we contend or not, so why not?

Completely agree.

In addition, I think that he gets a bad rap from Cs fans on this board and others because of the circumstances in Indiana. He came into a situation that went sour and was immediately blamed for it.

Okay, so he had a fistfight with Lance. I'll bet a lot of folk would like to or have beefed with Lance in the past. Turner comes in and "replaces" the revered veteran presence of the team (Granger). That. I'm sure didn't sit well with fans and teammates alike.

Also. Indiana was our "Great White Hope" of unseating the dastardly cHeat and LeBroid. Pacers started out guns 'a blazin' last season, and were embraced by many Cs fans because of their defensive-oriented style of play, because of the Cs conections there among other reasons.

Then the Pacers go south, and Turner catches a lot of the blame. Not that whack-job (who CAN play by the way) Stephenson had anything to do with it or the possibility that "Catfish" George was banging Hibbert's girl and that may have caused some tension. Oh, No!! It was all Turner's fault . Gimme an f'ing break.

The kid can play and is value right now. The fact that he'll be away from a dysfunctional clubhouse and that screwball Philadelphia team that he came from and will come to an Ainge/Stevens/Rondo structured situation will do wonders for him.

Danny buys low. Go get him, Danny boy!!

Wow, Turner sounds like a bad idea, after reading this stuff. No wonder Philly dumped him for nothing.  Bad DD on their part in drafting him as 2nd pick.

Im tired of some people on this blog that automatically exclude a player becasue they are a "problem" or a "knucklehead".  If they can help the team, who gives an ish!

Plus his T-Rex wingspan with Kelly Olynyk's would make our squad, if they're out there at the same time, probably the least effective defensive team in the league, haha.  KO can't block anybody's shot and Turner can't play the passing lanes.  I think that Turner would be a great 6th man for a contender - if he was a good 3 point shooter.  As one of the sixers' commentators said, "he's like a swiss army knife."  Perhaps he should have said that he's a Jack of all Trades, but master of none, instead.

Here we are -

I think that this clip shows what Larry was hoping he'd get when he traded for Turner, in terms of production on a consistent basis off of the bench, but it never worked out.  His sweet-spot, jumper-wise, appears to be at and below the free throw line.  If he could add to his range it would be of great help to him and whatever team he signs with, imo.  It looks like he has a good post up game as well, which is rare.

Hey, hey, careful there.  I forgot that we can't mention stuff the other day and was reminded of it in a thread I made about Granger and McRoberts.  Just so we're all clear haha :)  The catfish thing was a real story, though.  Unfortunately.

As for Turner, I agree with your assessment - for the most part.  Yes, after Lance didn't make the all star team (which he probably should have) he started sulking on and off the court (as I've read elsewhere), George just...WOW, and Hibbert got the worst of it it would seem between George and Bynum :o  Where Turner gets a bad rap is this - he couldn't fit in on a rebuilding team, where he should have been the leader, and he was a bad apple in Indiana, so he hasn't exactly helped his cause from a team chemistry standpoint.

This might sound ridiculous, but seriously, guys, if you had to choose between Green and Turner to be your starting sf next season, who do you go with?  This is actually a pretty tough one for me to answer, haha.  We know what and who Green is, while Turner is still relatively young, would be far cheaper, and has a lot more upside - if only because he actually plays aggressively.  It seems as though I've talked myself into signing Turner haha.  On the other hand, Green doesn't rock the boat, so, yeah...

I think turner is being grossly underestimated here.  He has that intngible get after attitude that our other SF..green does not have

I'd be more willing to take on a guy like Turner if PP and KG were still here. Guys like Turner could hurt a young team, and all of DA's work to getting nice young talent for assets go right down the drain.

While Green drives me nuts with his hot/cold games, like you said he doesn't rock the boat.

I'm dreaming of something like a S&T with Indy/Minni/Bos. We of course get Love. Minni gets Turner,Sully, plus filler/assest. Indy could get some expirings for Stephonson, and a Bass or Humps, Thorton, what ever it took out side of Rondo.

Bottom line would be let Minni have the headache! LOL
