I love the move, but I also thought it was weird at the same time, because this hurts the C's chances to get Love.

BUT, maybe DA got a call about some thing else, maybe some thing popped up that will make this make more sense.

The FA season really just started when Lebron announced. I wouldn't be surprised to start hearing some rumors in a few hours.

there is NO connection between the Nets trade last year and the zeller trade this year...NONE...and yes...i would let the TPE expire...once again...someone PROVE to me that clevaland had another TPE or trade out to clear the cap space...

We can start with the Lakers. There's one. Need more?

There's the connection that the Brooklyn trade was within our own conference AND division, which makes it a super-duper double violation of a very prescient rule written before divisions existed.

of course we got the TPE from nj...the argument was that since we fleeced nj for the TPE that we might as well misuse the TPE just like nj...that fallacy of that argument is beyond me...so basically since nj was dumb last year we might as well be dumber this year...dumb and dumber...that's lunacy...

If it wasn't the Celtics, it would have been someone else. It was a good move by Danny.

I agree with this.  The C's weren't the only team with a TPE or non-guaranteed contracts.  Some other team would have stepped in.  If Lebron wanted to go back to Cleveland the Cavs were going to make it work somehow.

DA has no control over how the lotto balls fall.  Wiggins is really the main thing that makes it appear right now that Love is going to get moved to Cleveland.

Exactly.  If LeBron wanted to go to Cleveland, the room was going to be created.  Trading Jack to the Nets and giving the Celtics some toys for helping out was the one Cleveland determined to be the best, but I'm sure there were similar offers from Philly, Utah, Orlando, Milwaukee, and others.  It'd have been much more annoying to just sit on the sidelines while this occurred, and say "Oh well."

Exactly. Some team was going to facilitate the deal (GSW had a $9.8m exception they were trying hard to use before it expired last night). Danny stepped in and got assets out of it. Idk how much we were still in it for Love - logic says if it was going to happen, it would've happened on draft night - but I think Cleveland and Brooklyn were going to find some team to help them do it. I'd prefer it if Ainge isn't so blindly clinging onto the hope of Love that he missed opportunities like this one.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Someone else was gonna capitalize on this... A first round pick, Zeller, and Thornton? Jeez, we clearly fleeced both teams.

This line of thought is no smarter than James Dolan reportedly squashing a potential trade for Felton and Shumpert for Kyle Lowry and a first because he was afraid that he was getting fleeced again by Masai Ujiri.

so once again...i hear about all these mythical teams like la and gs that were supposedly going to step up to plate...so now you're going to tell me...since it was de facto a done deal...we might as well beat them to the punch...i'll say it again...PROVE that there was another team READY to step up to plate...i just hear conjectures...PROVE it...

other teams had cap space and trade exceptions which could have done the same deal.  If you can get a recent high draft pick, a future first, and a useful expiring contract for nothing, you do it.  Period.  Especially when Lebron is in Cleveland or Miami, both teams that with Lebron would be better than Boston for the foreseeable future.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Can you describe what you would consider proof?  Signed affidavits from front office officials?

i actually love the argument that there were other teams ready to pounce on such a great opportunity...it actually makes sense to me...but...once again...someone PROVE that there was another team READY to step up to the plate...

Teams like Utah and Philly have tons of cap room.  They could've easily made this trade as well.
