Well I know they want to move favors to the center. I dnt think trading for Kanter would be worth while bc they prob want more than what he's worth.

Gordon Hayward is an average player at best. He isn't some star player that we missed out on, and that contract is disgusting. Avery Bradley for half that is much better.

I think Kanter will ultimately be moved since he's more tailored to be a center and the Jazz clearly view Favors as a center.  That said, they're not going to sell him for pennies on the dollar; he's a valuable player and they'll look to get value in return.

Hayward's contract has nothing to do with Kanter, by the way, given that Kanter's still on his rookie contract.  They can safely match Charlotte's offer and still retain Kanter until they're ready to trade him.

I'm not sure Hayward is good enough to be a third option. I was talking more in general.

I do not think it's paying a 3rd option big money that kills teams cap situations. I think it is role player contracts.

And when teams who do overpay 3rd options struggle, it is usually because they overpay supporting players around them instead of keeping cap flexibility to add to 3rd option and build proper foundation.

In terms of Hayward, I wouldn't pay him this contract.

I think Gordon Hayward has the talent to be the 3rd best player on a title contender but I also think he is struggling to find his place in the league. His style of play and getting the most out of his skill-set is not correct. Four years in and still hasn't found his way in the league. Makes me nervous. There is enough talent there to be 3rd option but his inability to understand his own game, his strengths and weaknesses and to utilize his skill-set accordingly, makes me nervous about paying him.

So, I think Hayward has the talent but doesn't know how to use it. That makes his contract much riskier in my eyes than a standard 3rd option level player. Too much added risk beyond basic risk of paying 3rd star before other stars are in place.

So, I wouldn't pay Hayward that money. If I were Utah, I would let him leave.
