This is probably false.  The Celtics had more than enough flexibility with trades such  that Smart's salary does not matter.  Again, this means he ant be traded for 30 days, or August 7th (presuming he signed today).  So if he's a piece in a Kevin Love trade, for instance, that trade cannot occur til August 7th.  In all probability, he's not getting traded before the start of the season.

Depends entirely on whether or not the C's had "good" contracts to offer.

This might be my inner Seinfeld, but I thought it was really interesting that he signed at 330 am eastern time (or at least that's when Deeks tweeted it). Like the Cs watched his second summer league game and absolutely had to burn the midnight oil to get him locked up.  Seriously though, it's weird to me that it would take until 330am to hammer out negotiations on a rookie contract.  Why not just take care of it in the morning? Maybe I'm just grumpy at night, but I thought it was weird.

Well, they certainly had non-guaranteed contracts that could equal to Smart's contract value, so the point is they could have made up the difference.  Again, given that he now can't be traded for 30 days, it seems pretty safe to say that any trade involving Smart wasn't and isn't near being completed.

Ok.  I hope he stays.  I think Smart has the potential to be an impact player in his rookie season for us.  Obviously he still has a lot of work ahead of him, but I think he can make a contribution and become a stud for the Celtics down the road.

I was having fun comparing his stats to some very good players. I think he can be a great player. Its going to be great to watch what Brad Stevens is known for, player development, and how he will mold this long athletic sharpshooter into a star.

I would love him to be like Klay Thompson but with better defense, because of his length.
