Free agent Boris Diaw has reached agreement on three-year, $22M deal to return to Spurs, sources tell Yahoo. Partial guarantee on 3rd year.

Great to see Diaw getting paid and staying with the Spurs. Truly deserves it  :)

Overpay.

How does a guy go from $4mil per annum to a $7mil in his early 30s after suffering major decline over past few seasons and regularly suffering from conditioning problems? Because of one good playoff series! Overreaction.

While he was pretty good in the playoffs, I think that's overpaying.
More than 7M/yr is starter money, not a useful, versatile bench guy money.
Maybe Diaw will be a stopgap at power forward in the starting lineup after Duncan retires in 2015.

so either the Spurs are vastly overpaying someone or the market really has seen massive inflation, actually i suspect this is some of both.

who was bidding against the Spurs? i cant see a team with cap room wanting Diaw so why did he get more then the full mid level?

He was instrumental in them winning a championship.  While it might seem like an over payment, salary caps are on the rise.  Hence, it seems almost everyone is being over paid.
It's a good deal for the Spurs.

Are they planning on playing Jeff Green at the 5? I don't understand this at all...how man guards can one team actually have? All the more reason to send Rondo out for picks and youth.

What does your hatred of Rondo have to do with the topic?

The same way Bradley signs a contract for 8 million a year after four sub par injury riddle seasons.

Diaw has always been extremely underrated. The Spurs are finally using his skill sets to maximize his value. 7 mil for Diaw, almost a Finals MVP, is more than fair.

What?

Diaw is not a guard. And he didn't sign with the celtics...

This had nothing to do with this thread.

The Spurs know they have a very tight window, with Duncan likely to retire soon.  They're going all-in for the near future, and didn't want to risk losing Diaw.  It's probably an overpay, but I respect the decision, because they're trying to maximize their playoff window.

No way Spurs could risk losing Diaw, he played like an all star for them in the playoffs.  ~7 mil per year isn't that far outside of his value anyway.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If only he was able to sign with the Cs (almost per his accounts) during the PP/KG era.
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Yeah Roy nailed it.....sorta like Danny did with Green and Bass ....to keep the core support intact while KG and Pierce were still trying to win another ring. Over contracted some .

Only we got more years than I would have signed them for in our case.

Duncan still playin like a spring chicken ...

Yeah .....I d brought Diaw back at that price too.

Didn'y  they just get a chip??? Boris Diaw 3 years Right? Duncan got 2 or 3 now? isn't Mills around the same time frame? ... makes sense to me!! Keep the team in tact as much as possible, then ride it to the wheels fall off!! They beat the big 3!!!!! I would've done the same!!

AND WHEN PLAYERS TAKE PAY CUTS, YOU CAN AFFORD TO DO THIS!!!!!!! ITS A NO BRAINER
