The guy to gamble on right now is Hibbert. He had a tough year reportedly due to distractions for personal issues with his girlfriend, but he's a legit big man who is a defensive presence and a scoring threat in the post, enough to lead his team to within a game of beating the Heat to reach the finals two years ago, and his stock is really low right now. He's much bigger than Sanders, and has much fewer issues to worry about. There are rumors that Bird wants Rondo and would trade Hibbert for him. I would do that in a heartbeat and rebuild with Hibbert, KO/Sullinger/Green/Bradley, Smart.
I agree with this, I think pairing Hibbert with his old college teammate Green might reenergize him, and if some of the rumors are true he needs to get out of Indy ASAP. The only issue I see with this is that I do not see that team advancing far and kind of puts them in NBA purgatory as Felger says. The cost of acquiring Hibbert in your scenario is a lot more then acquiring Sanders reportedly is.
