Fact is, the league has become a messed up joke when trying to build a team. Back in the days when Red was running the show, GM's had to make shrewd moves, planning years ahead when making trades, especially when future draft picks were involved, and thinking out of the box, ala drafting Larry Bird! Now to get that "really special player" or "the franchise player" that you need to win championships, it comes down to HAVING TO TANK or getting the miracle lottery pick, ala Cleveland (1.7%), or your team being in either a "glamor city", or a desirable warm weather city, or preferably both, to get superstars to collude to form a "super team". The rest of the teams are just "fill" for the league, and a cash cow for their owners who get fans to continue to pay out big bucks watching a team that has no chance at a title.
Right now, the Celtics are in the latter category, rolling the dice every year, hoping for a shot at a great player in the draft, but being derailed by pride, not going "full tank".
When Philly possibly has Noel, Embiid, Saric, and another high pick from next year, due to all their tanking, many fans will have wished our franchise wasn't quite so proud!
