Olynyk looked lost today.
a bad day. nothing more. nothing less. i am not overboard on olly based upon his finish of 30 some odd games  last year. i am not discouraged by one summer league game.

this is ultimately what nick and others are saying. dont get too hyped over olly based upon a sss. and dont get discouraged when he stinks for a game or two.

i continue to believe that olly will become an above average forward who will provide points and rebounds off the bench for a good team.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Olynyk looked lost today.
And that's okay because he isn't some 20/10 star second year player, he's a decent complimentary player playing in the Summer League with a ton of guys he has never played with before. It's only natural he has his ups and downs, even in Summer League. This is why I caution over-hyping the kid. He's going to have great games. He's going to have stinkers. And he's going to have most of his games be somewhere in between.

I am just hoping for growth from the 9/5/1 numbers he put up last year and that a sophomore slump isn't in his future

He did lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists...

He's D-League Nowitzki, Summer League Champ.

Olynyk looked lost today.

Unbelievably lost!!!  But then again, so did everyone else. Smart was terrible jocking up bad shots.  you just have to wait and see if the kid develops or turns into another Jordan Crawford!!!!

Yet another impressive appearance in the summer league for Kelly Olynyk.  He showed off a toned up and more athletic body and the results showed on the court.  20 points 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

I think it is becoming gradually obvious who the best PF on the Celtics roster is right now.  I would not be surprised if KO is not at MINIMUM a 15-7 player this season as long as he gets at least 25-30 minutes per game.  He can make shots from all ranges and his 7' size is always an advantage.

I think Olynyk could easily become a #2 option in an offense if he continues on this upward trend.

We're still lacking that #1 scoring option, but at least we have a couple of more pieces in Smart and Young, and KO should emerge for a breakout season in 2014.  Calling it right now!

Do I still want Love?  Yes.  Can we ship off some combination of Sully, Jeff Green, and 1st round picks for him?
while i hope you are right, i have doubts olly can put up 15 and 7 next season. let's have some context to help us here.

most seasons between 400 to 500 players are in the nba over the course of a season.

last year, a total of 14 players averaged at least 15 points and 7 rebounds. 14. that represents about 3% to 4% of the total number of players. not a lot.

will olly be so good as to rank among the top 4% of all players of the nba in scoring and rebounds? we can hope, but i wouldn't put money on it.

good perspective, thanks for posting that stat.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

Very tough to evaluate players in summer league it's basically pick up bball. His shot was short a lot which tells me his legs are tired, he had about 8 more passes that should have been assists. He is far and away the best player on that squad right now. IMO anytime a big man does well in summer league is impressive. It is more of a guard slash frenzy league.

Ok and how many TPs will you all give if Olynyk hits the predicted mark -- 15/7 if he averages at last 25-30mpg? :-)  I'll offer the same if he misses the mark with the requisite amount of minutes played.  Just a friendly wager here, and if KO makes that mark we should all be happy because that meant he made the second year leap.
