Spencer Hawes agrees to 4-year, $23 million deal with L.A. Clippers

I don't like the money. I don't think Hawes is worth that.

Especially not in a backup center role behind DeAndre Jordan. Jordan should be playing ~35 minutes a night so Hawes should only be getting 12-15mpg. $6 million a year is a lot for a 12 minute a night bench player. Both guys are one position players so playing them together will rarely be a good option.

Hawes is a bad defensive player too. So Clips will still have interior defense issues whenever DeAndre Jordan goes to the bench. It's not like they have a high quality perimeter defense to compensate / offset / hide interior defense issues.

The one thing that gives me pause is the idea of Chris Paul with a center as skilled as Hawes who is a strong outside shooter (and passer) and can open up the court for everyone else. Get Blake Griffin lots of space in the paint. And give CP3 and Crawford great driving lanes to exploit.  That is an interesting situation. I wonder if CP3 can exploit Hawes well enough to make this contract & signing a good move for LAC.

Nah, I doubt it. Too much money. Too small a role. Won't have enough of an impact. Money could have been better invested elsewhere (backup PF, wing defender, backup PG).

Why do you doubt it? Chris Paul is one of the best penetrators in the league.

I think CP3 and Hawes will do well together. I just don't think it'll be enough to justify the expense of the contract given Hawes' defensive issues and lack of available playing time.

Cavs should take back Jared Dudley. He'd be a great low usage know-how-to-win veteran 3&D backup SF for their team. Or a starting SF if Hayward (or Ariza?) don't pan out as signings with Wiggins playing SG.

It was all a power grab by some folks trying to get rid of Sterling. The timing was perfect for them because it was first round of playoff and the attention was on the NBA. Once the Clippers were bounced everyone went back to business as usual and the money keeps rolling in.

You really think those people care about civil/human rights?

If they did Nike would be out of the NBA and out of business. You do not claim you care about human rights and put Phil Knight in the NBA Hall of Fame.

Lets not try and make the NBA anymore than the money making entertain machine that it is.

Doc went through last season thinking he could make Jordan a more athletic version of Perk.  This might mean he's learned his lesson.  I'd take Jordan on the Celts 'cause we got nothing else but while he blocks shots, he's really not a good defender and he's even more limited on offense than Perk.  Hawes is a GREAT pickup for the Clips, but getting Pierce should have been the priority.

I thought that there may be some people left in the NBA that had integrity to stand behind their words. I think as fans we need to hold them accountable, and not just lose interest the second the news cameras and interviews stop.

We can argue the economics of sweatshops for disadvantage people forever. But in the end he takes advantage of the poorest of the poor.I also do not agree Knight deserves to be in hall of fame because Jordan made Nike not the other way around.

One of the WORST defenders in the NBA and soft as butter.
He can shoot, but unfortunately vs any kind of length- particularly the length he's going to face out West during the playoffs- he's fiery, smoking, melting garbage.

Dunno Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. Doc is doing- he targeted Hawes with KG when KG destroyed him in the 2012 playoffs. His plan will be to leave Hawes out on the perimeter to keep his defender away from the basket for CP3 and Griffin to run pick and roll.

I don't think it's fair to compare Jordan to Perk.  Jordan is far better.  He is one of the beat rebounders in the league and he is so aware of his offensive limitations that shoots like a million percent from the field.

Last season, Jordan's PER was 20.3.  He allowed opposing centers to rack up a PER of 19.6.  Jordan is a great rebounder, but guys who only do one thing really we can't play 35 minutes a night in the NBA.
