Just wanted to see who most of you think the Celtics should sign at the center position. I believe we are a center away from being a playoff team.

Personally, I would take one of these three players: Greg Monroe, Spencer Hawes or Emeka Okafor. Although, Jason Smith could be another front runner IMO. Hard for me to choose exactly.

What do you guys think? Feel free to provide insight about your answers and/or if you have a player not mentioned here, then what player do you think the celtics should sign?

Greg Monroe is the front runner no doubt, although I know there are lots of people who have other interests in other players on this list.

Cole Aldrich is another great possibility but I don't think he would help much in the Celtics road to being a contender soon.

he started to "get it" the end of last year.  He did a number on Valenciunus (7'6 wingspan) , other decent centers and  manhandled Sully and KO it was like a joke when he started against us last year

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Jordan Hill is the only one on that list that the Celtics have talked to.

I really want Monroe but doubt Pistons let him go esp if Josh Smith is traded..so I pick Okafor..sign him to a one year deal with a team option..
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Ugh, maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think Monroe is great fit for our team.  I'd rather get a more defensive minded center, and it's arguable he is a true center anyway.

I'd like to chance on Noel but that's very unlikely.  Another guy I've been thinking is Al Hortford. Though not a traditional shot blocker he does play solid D.  Maybe just young enough to be part of our core moving forward, and old enough to be nice a solid veteran for the young guys to be around. That's probably unlikely too.

I would settle for Okafor on a short deal if we can't get anything else.

Yes, that's true. Although there are reports the celtics made calls to over 30-40 people, maybe another center that they didn't disclose? I thought Jordan Hill would be the likely candidate considering he can come for cheap, and he plays tenacious defense and he can rebound. Although lots of people don't want him. I think Jordan hill is likely because he is cheap but I do think the celtics should probably try Monroe or Okafor.

This list is why the Celtics really shouldn't rush into this whole Center thing. Better to wait for a star or young player on the rise and be ready when the opportunity presents itself.

I do like Jordan Hill's game and signing him shouldn't prevent any long term plans, seems like a realistic target. Greg Monroe too, but a player in the mold of Andre Drummond is what we really need and he's not going anywhere.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Spencer Hawes is a very decent player. 13, 8, and 3 with 1.6 threes a game? He would fit really well here.

He's the second best player on that list too.
I like Marcus Smart

True, Drummond would be a great asset although he's not leaving Detroit anytime soon.

Spencer Hawes is underrated IMO. He can log in 20-25 valuable minutes (sometimes 30) and he can score at a rate of 10-15 points, get 7-10 rebounds per game at that time span, and he can hit threes which is another valuable asset. His three point FG % was 45, which is not bad. This wouldn't be a bad signing at all for the Celtics.

He probably negates most of that with some matador defense.
