I'm sure I asked these questions in the past, but I forget the answers.
Our Pierce trade exception is 10.3 mil, right? It expires on July 12th, right? ANd we can take back up to 10.3 mil in a trade, right?
Question 1: Can you combine the trade exception with another contract? In other words... Pierce trade exception + Green ... and take back someone making 18 mil? What about Pierce trade exception + Green for 3 players making a combined 18 mil? What about Pierce trade exception + a sign-and-traded Kris Humphries for a player making 18 mil? Are any/all of these scenarios possible?
Question 2: Say we trade the Pierce exception to a team who is also over the cap. For example... say on July 11th we trade the Pierce trade exception to the Nets for Marcus Thornton (8.7 mil)... In that hypothetical example, the Nets remain over the cap... What then happens to the exception? It had "expired" on July 12th. Does it effectively become a "new" trade exception with a new expiration date? In other words... do the Nets now have a "Marcus Thornton Trade Exception" worth 8.7 mil that expires on July 11th 2015?... or does it continue existing as the "Pierce trade exception" which they can use... but expires on July 12th 2014 (1 day later)?.... or does it just disappear... once it is used it's just gone? I've never had clarification on that.
