Meet the new Cleveland management, same as the old Cleveland management.

That Jeff Green contract looks better all the time.

How does a contract offer like that make it through an organization?  There wasn't one person who looked at it and had a seizure?

Their thinking is pretty easy to understand.  They have cap space.  They have a hole at SF.  They decided on who the best available SF was, then they decided how much money was needed to pry him away.

There were probably people in the organization who thought it was a bad idea, but there no alternative idea to offer if the decision makers were set on getting the best player available at that position.

True. If the backcourt of Irving/Wiggins/Hayward all reach their ceilings, the Cavs will be a contender in a few years. It's a big risk though.

when Utah declines to match... send 'em Uncle Snooze Button as a replacement... he's a bargain!

I'd rather keep Jeff Green.

On a rebuilding team? I'd rather have Rudy Gobert and salary relief.

I don't think the Jazz will want Jeff Green since they're rebuilding as well. I'm happy with Green right now. No need to rush to trade him if the price isn't right.

The Jazz are rebuilding? Tell them that. They started 'rebuilding' when they traded Deron Williams.... over 3 years ago. Which may be why they'll match the Cavs anyway.

If it wasn't Cleveland, it would be somebody. Hayward was always likely to get a max deal.

Jeff green gets what like 9 mil a year ? How does Gordan Hayward get the max ? He's not as talented than Green, he just plays harder. Like Hayward but the max ?! They're gonna regret it bigtime.....

Honestly, with the Cavs' roster, I'd be intrigued with the addition of Hayward at the SG spot. A really good target for Irving.

I think this is a good move by a team that needs to make a move to upgrade talent.

I still need to see the breakdown of Irving's contract though, before really deciding, but even though I considered Hayward a huge mistake for us, I like how he fits with the Cavs.

Irving's contract does not take effect until 2015-2016 season.  It will have a starting salary of about $19 million, with 7.5% raises every year, for five years.  The actual salary will not be determined until July 2015, since it is based on the 2015-2016 salary cap.

I'd be interested to know the $$ amounts Ainge / Stevens discussed with him. I'd guess it wasn't far off, but Ainge is fairly handcuffed at those numbers.

Strong perimeter rotation

PG - Kyrie, Jack
SG - Hayward, Waiters
SF - Wiggins, (Hayward)

Big man rotation sucks though.

PF - Thompson, Bennett, Clark
C  - Varejao, Zeller

Need to upgrade one of the starting big man slots to be sure of a playoff spot.

I think Waiters will be the odd man out, but the perimeter rotation would still be excellent. They can actually build around that.

But yeah, big man rotation leaves a lot to be desired.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

That's bonkers. He's a nice player, but he struggled mightily when the Jazz asked him to be the man last season. But he's a RFA, so you can't offer him anything reasonable if you really want him.

Did the Cleveland Cavaliers just secure the title of worst run professional sports franchise from the Clippers permanently?

When are those multiple championships coming Mr. Gilbert?

Bron Bron - 2  Cleveland - ZERO

If they didn't secure the title, they now have. Two max contracts on that team? (even though one was well earned.) That would financially cripple them for years.

Kyrie Irving is #231 out of 437 NBA players in real plus/minus.  He did NOT EARN a max deal.  The Cavs GAVE it to him!!!!!

RPM also says that Andre Iguodala is better than Kevin Durant, and that Nick Collison (7th) and Channing Frye (10th) are top-10 players.  Shavlick Randolph and Matt Bonner are better than DeMarcus Cousins.

an bradley's contract becomes more understandable. a number of teams have a lot of cap space and after the initial bidding for the stars is over, they are likely to throw that money at the next couple of tiers of players...such as bradley.

the nba may be entering a new marketplace. it may be that our old ideas on what is a good salary for a player need to be redone.

I don't value this guy's reporting... but...

Sam Amico @SamAmicoFSO
Told by Cavs source details reported about meeting with Jazz free agent Gordon Hawyard have been "greatly exaggerated."

I mean, Hobbs made his point and it really doesn't require further elaboration, but let's be real here: plus/minus is, and always has been, a complete statistical joke. Any and all attempts to improve plus/minus have been fruitless, quite clearly. As much as it pains me to say this, even PER is probably a better evaluator of players than plus/minus.

Both are still garbage compared to win shares.

Back to the point, though: this contract is ABSURD. Hayward is worth $10 mil a year, tops.

I like him but I like Joe Johnson's game as well.  Way too much for the player he is….green's a deal and i guess rondo is worth a gazillion a year now
i'm still not sure even with him on that team how good they can be???
