If LeBron decided he wanted to play for Doc Rivers and join his buddy CP3, Clips would have to unload DeAndre Jordan's salary. Our 10.3M TPE could get the deal done and give us DeAndre for the last year of his contract. We get a year of rim protection while we make other plans, plus we have a big expiring contract as trade bait.

This works in my head, but would it actually work? Besides making the huge assumption that LeBron goes to L.A., what am I missing?

we don't want to help LAC get a better pick next year. If CP3 or Blake gets injured, it could be a pretty high draft pick since they play in the mighty West.

There are lots of rim protectors in next year's draft, some of them better than Jordan.

They're too good to be a lotto team regardless. If Lebron wanted to sign there and the only thing in their way is Jordan I'd be all for using the TPE for a legit rim protector coming off of his best season as a pro.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I agree, with or without James, the Clippers are a top 4 team in the West, our pick from them won't be worth any much or less with him joining.

However, getting Jordan with our TPE makes sense to us, since it won't impact our pick much while giving us a starting caliber, rebounding, rim protector center. Isn't that what we really wanted?

No, they are top-heavy and rely heavily on CP3 and Blake. And they lost their high quality back up pg to free agency.

Jordon makes $11.4m and the TPE is $10.3 and I believe it only carries a $100k buffer.

I love the idea and Jordan would be such a nice fit on our team: however, his 11 million dollar salary doesn't work with our 10.3 million TPE. Since you can't combine salaries with the TPE, we would have to use Bogans and other expirings to get as close as possible to his salary for a trade.

Assuming we would be under the luxury tax after acquiring Jordan (which, as of today, we would be), we could absorb Jordan's salary by sending Bogans, Johnson, Babb, and Pressey, who could all be waived by the Clippers and cost them $0.  If the Clippers want to make room for someone else by moving Jordan's contract, we can help.  I don't think this is likely, but we're capable.

You realize the exact hypothetical scenario you brought up of CP3 getting hurt happened last season, right?  And that Blake responded by raising his play to a level that had him earning MVP praise, pretty much singlehandedly keeping the Clippers afloat?
