Ok Good resign by DAnny on BRadley this is just the first move of many. He has to have more up his sleeve than just this. Green out maybe for some assets to a team that has the space. With the Bradley signing how much cap room do we have left ?

It's complicated ;)

There may be some timing tricks the C's use to maximize their space for the longest, but with AB signed we're actually 4.46M *over* the cap and have 15 players under contract -- though Bogans, CJohnson, Pressey and Babb are unguaranteed deals.

If we waived Bogans, CJohnson, Pressey and Babb we'd have ~$3.37M

I 99% sure we have the non-taxpayer MLE which is $5.305M -- and can be split between a few players -- to use to sign FAs.

Rondo 13 million
Wallace 10.1 million
Green 9.2 million
Bradley 8 million
Bass  7 million
Anthony 3.8 million
Smart 3.2 million?
Olynyk 2.1 million
Sullinger 1.4 million
Faverani 2.1 million
Young 1.5 million?

Thats about 61.4 million.  Projected cap is 63.2 so if we keep Babb and Johnson or sign new guys to minimum contacts, we arebasically at the limit.

Now if Bradley only gets 3.5 million this year and the 8 million doesnt start til next year, I guess we would have around 4 mil to spend?  More likely we will just use the MLE to get a center.  I think it is 5.3 million this year.  The Bi-Annual Exception is 2.1 million.

I dont see us  using MLE on a center. I see us taking an undrafted center or d-league center.

This is not allowable.  Bradley will be signing a new contract, starting this year.  You can only get a raise of 7.5% of the first-year of the contract per year.  So if Bradley were to make $3.5 million this year, he'd make about $3.8 million next year, $4 million the year after that, and $4.3 million the final year.

Sullinger  ???????  Anthony   Faverani
Bass  Olynyk
Green  Wallace  Young
Smart   Bradley  Johnson
Rondo  Pressey

Unless we trade for Biyombo, I have a feeling we could see an Ed Davis or Jordan Hill signed for the midlevel starting at 5.3 million.  Maybe we split it and sign Ekpe Udoh for 2.8 million and use the other 2.5 million for a veteran shooter off the bench.  Mike Miller/Francisco Garcia type.  Not sure who we could get with just 2.5 million.

I meant did he still have one year left at 3.5 and then the contract starts or does the new contract start now?

No he did not have one year left. He'd played the 4 years of his rookie deal, then the Celtics made him a qualifying offer of ~$3.5M, which made AB a Restricted FA, meaning he could do 1 of 3 things:

1. Negotiate a deal with the C's

2. Negotiate a deal with another team -- which we could choose to match or not by virtue of having extended the Q.O.

3. Accept the qualifying offer (which is 1 year) and become an unrestricted FA next summer.

Iverson

Not sure why folks keep talking about a rim protector and sleeping on him. I watched SL too last year and footwork was not on Olynk's lvl but he is a hustling bruiser.
I'd like to cut Vitor and pull C.I. in and get him some floor time. Olynk looked absolutely lost early in the year and it got better. The upside for a true Center with a eye toward making contact on folks who drive into the paint...

Man, Danny has a dude who would put 4 wicked fouls on folks. He's a 7ft 260lb contact seeking missle.....

Can't wait for Summer league and hope he impresses. Screw J Hill...no offense but lets give our own guys a chance to fail if we are going youth movement.

Signing Bradley eliminates our unlikely scenario of renouncing free agents and freeing up a chunk of money for an impact free agent.

Now our attention probably turns towards finding a trade... Possibly for our pierce trade exception that expires on the 12th.

Good post.  I actually can see how AB fits in now.   With possibly Rondo, Wallace, Bass, Green, and Anthony off the books eventually his deal looks like it's in line.    Still,  what a mess of a team Danny has created right now.

That Bass deal, for what he adds to the current roster, sticks out like a sore thumb.

If team isn't likely to contend then they may let it expire to avoid tax. Avoiding tax early in rebuilding is very important now with the "repeater" tax hike. Repeater tax really has changed things for many teams even teams like Knicks and Nets fear the repeater tax.

We also have the TPE (for now).  And we could wait to formally sign Bradley to increase flexibility in landing actual FAs, right?  His cap hold would be the QO til the new deal is actually completed and filed, if I'm not mistaken.

As of now the Celtics have just under 7 million in cap room, per Spotrac:
