Just read a brief article on ESPN Boston about KO.  In it he comments on his apparent improvements on his body stating that he wanted to loose weight and increase his strength and mobility.   He was afraid the extra pounds might have hampered his performance last year.  Amazing that KO could recognize this...Sully just recognizes frosting on doughnuts.

I'm not a big KO fan but does anyone think its possible that he supplants Sully at the 4? He's a better passer, shooter and all around offensive player...should open up lanes for Smart to drive and dish.  Thoughts?

it seemed pretty apparent from day 1 that he was a hard worker. glad to know that's where he's at. hard workers are always good to have on a team.

I wonder how all the folks saying he needed to get bigger will take this.

He's so much more skilled than Sully, IMO...
HOWEVER... i'm not sure how much more "explosive" he can really be... i highly respect him toning down for mobility, but i'd still rather he gain some muscle to get 3-5 more boards per game.

Surprisingly his REB average wasn't too shabby for the minutes he played.  If he is replacing fat with muscle he could still strengthen and loose weight....I don't know what his % of body fat was but if he sheds 15lbs of fat on a body that large and replaces it with 5-10lbs of muscle thats a solid strength improvement.

in NBA 2k14, Kelly is like a star on the Celtics, he averages like 18 and 8 lol

jokes aside, I am impressed with what I saw with Kelly last year but I won't make a judgement on whether or not he is better than Sully. I wonder who gets it done first -

KO building up muscle or Sully toning down by 30 lbs

I think KO is ultimately a keeper if he can bulk up a bit, and he would be more healthy vs Sully. I fear for Sully's career if he really doesn't get down to about 250-270 lbs.

I agree. If Sully can transform into 250 lbs of muscle he will have a strong career, I think. He has a fantastic game around the basket and a nice touch. I love KO's game as well. But I don't see things as one or the other. I want them both, I want one coming off the bench, and I want them both in the best conditioning to succeed. A lot of guys have all the athleticism and strength, but very little skill and BBIQ. Both of these guys have a high level of skill, and are very smart players. I truly believe that they are just top conditioning away from being starter materials in this league.

I think this is one of those cases where people don't really know what they want.

For some reason, people assume you have to be built like Kevin Love to get a lot of rebounds, while somehow forgetting that KG had a long and illustrious career while being built like a lanky string bean.

Strength is important, but overall weight is not. Furthermore, good rebounding instincts, hustle, and fundamentals (like blocking out) will beat pure size and strength EVERY time (see: Dennis Rodman, or lanky Joakim Noah).

Hell, Rondo is a great rebounder for his position and he weighs as much as a 15 year old girl.

Long story short: mobility is extremely underrated for big men in the NBA. I'd rather have you be able to run the floor to get back on defense and defend the pick and roll than get 1 or 2 more rebounds a game to pad your stats anyway.

You don't think Sullinger understands this. He's working hard too.

I hope he is learning how to play the CENTER position...He is 7' tall---and we need something....he could be a Brad Miller type.

Nope.  I don't think so.

The C's just posted video of him working out with a reporter on their home page and he weighed in at 280lbs.  He claimed he hasn't been able to work out very hard because of an ankle inure that took place during the season.  Anyone who knows if they aren't going to be able to exercise they need to cut back on their dietary habits except Sully.

As i've said before, I like Sully on the court a lot.  He's a great rebounder and had a winning attitude, but the guy doesn't understand what he needs to do off the court....

The only thing I'm sure about with Sully is that he launched some three's in the practice facility.

With his back and ankle problems, it's going to be hard stay mobile. This is first offseason fully healthy. Wait until training camp, then judge him.

I don't think Sullinger understands what "dietary habits" are. If he did, he wouldn't be at 280 lbs, injuries or no injuries.

Except he's already excusing himself from the "fully healthy" part by whining about his ankle injury. This has to stop.

Getting in shape is not just about your ability to lift weights. In fact, it is just about as much -- if not more -- about what you eat. This is a fact apparently lost on Jared Sullinger.

It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out caloric balance, all you need grade school math. There's no excuse for someone whose job is to stay in shape, and who has the resources of a professional sports franchise available to him.

I am a big fan of KO and Sully. My hope for their development is that Sully establishes himself as the starting 4 and becomes a consistent double double guy (15pt 10rb every night). I think KO will fit in perfectly as a 6th man backing up the 4 and the 5. He will allow the Cs to go to the bench and have two versatile bigs on the court to create matchup problems and great spacing on offense.

It may be due to body type. I'm pretty sure he's getting shape right now, no need to give up on him already.
