Chris Bosh has agreed in principal with the Miami Heat to a five-year contract that would pay him $11 million in the first season, while Dwyane Wade has agreed to a deal that will pay $12 million initially and last four seasons.

LeBron James is seeking a one or two-year contract at a maximum amount.

Reporter to Bosh "Why were you willing to accept such a drastic pay cut?"
Bosh responds while crying and cowering "Please, sir!  May I have another?"

... the same way the NBPA allows players to push for max money, even if it's obvious the player in question is being grossly overpaid?  What exactly is the issue here?  Players are free to negotiate for whatever salary to which they are entitled.

Melo isn't taking the paycut and Miami aren't tying up all the cap space with him anyways. Miami needs bigs. Melo ends up in Chicago or back to NY book it.

oh please.  if a celtic player did this, everyone would be applauding their commitment to the team, saying how they were showing "celtic pride".  I hate the heat as much as the next guy, but if an athlete gives up a higher paycheck to keep their team as competitive as possible and give the fans what they want, it should be recognized as a good act on their part.

It's not the same though. Bosh is basically taking a paycut to give LeBron a raise. LeBron wants the max and the shorter deal. I'm going to laugh when he bails on Miami in two years.

As a fan you appreciate it, but these guys are taking nearly a $10 million per season pay cut so that they can serve the King.  That's kind of pathetic.  I can understand Wade to a degree since he only plays in 2/3rds of regular season games and gets over $12m in endorsements.  But Bosh?  He only gets a couple million in endorsements and could get close to, if not, a max contract from another team.  He's still in his prime.

actually.. if true that they are taking 10 mil paycuts ... it's not to serve the King... It's to free up enough cap space to sign another impact player.

you'd have 23 mil dedicated to Wade/Bosh.  another 20 mil or so dedicated to Bron, right?

With cap at 63.5, that leaves another 20 mil to go out and get Melo... or worst-case you use it for someone like Gortat + someone like Bradley.

They are both taking huge pay cuts while the King (according to rumors) is getting a raise.  Yes, they are serving.

King should get a raise.  He's a bball god.  But those guys taking dramatic pay-cuts is so they can get someone like Kyle Lowry to add to the mix..   They'd have like 10-20 mil in additional cap space to play with, right?

So you could maybe add Lowry + Gortat.

I'm pretty sure that after the Celtics lost to the Lakers in 85, that if Bird informed Parish and McHale they had to halve their salaries so that he could have a modest raise and allow the team to sign another good player just so that they could still have the privilege of continuing toplay with him, they would have knocked his head off.

I can see Wade taking a deal that gets him more money over 4 years.  I can't imagine Bosh's family or financial advisors would EVER let him take that kind of contract.
