If the celtics did contact 30 players, then that makes sense as to why we are hearing the names of lots of backup quality players.

You gotta kick a lot of tires, especially if you want to get one of those backups cheap later in free agency. Hey, remember when we called you at the start of free agency? We love your game, but don't have much cap space left. How about signing here for a little discount and much love?

He's probably trying to get an idea of what the market price will be for various talent levels based on asking prices.  He may be looking at what players he can use to assemble a cheap bench if there are some fireworks and a major contract player incoming.

I think the signs are pretty clear that the Celtics have a trade in place for everyone on the roster and are looking to replace them with 30 free agents this summer.

nah...you low ball your own players, not the free agents you hope to attract

I take it that no one on the roster is safe and Ainge is making contacts with multiple options for multiple positions. 


Ainge is looking to trade multiple players for few players.  He needs to be ready to restock the roster after such a move.

Hopefully the report that the Celtics were the first call to Thomas just meant that no one before us really wanted to call. I really hope he doesn't come here. No need for Nate Robinson 2.0. But regardless, I like the work that DA is doing, literally contacting all of his options.

Also.. not at all big on Hayward.

If Ainge wanted to tank, Bass and Green wouldn't still be on the team.  I have no doubt Ainge is willing to blow it up but that's probably Option Z for him.

Developing young players is not the same as tanking.  I don't see Ainge making any more moves to get worse for the sake of getting worse... trading Rondo included.  We won't be tanking this year.
