analysis of his D against the "future allstar"

Wiggins is a stick.

I'll hold my opinion on this until Smart guards a proven NBA three.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I saw this earlier and was surprised. I can't wait for the first time DWade tries posting up Smart and gets trashed. Can see Wade rolling around on his back now begging for call

I'm getting more and more excited to see what he can do at the NBA level. Saw highlights of him suffocating Exum defensively as well.

True.

But still, guarding someone who's very athletic and has about 4 or 5 inches than you and holding your own should get some merit. Especially when that someone is also a highly touted prospect who's supposed to be a star in the same league.

And it's not like he'll consistently guard SF's, it just shows that he can. If anything, this should be any indication that a PG or SG in the same size like Smart would be well guarded by him.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Yea Exum faked a ankle injury (speculation) just to get out of the game to not hurt his stock, after Smart owned him defensively

Great! But what's the point? Okay he can guard the 3 but does he have to do that in the NBA? He's a guard so he will be guarding the 1 and 2 positions. Does it really matter if he can or can not guard the 3? To prove the critics wrong? To hell with those critics.

Yes... it does. If you can't see the value of a player that on any given possession can switch assignment (because of a screen, pick, etc.), then not worth discussing further.

Man he made Wiggins look silly...Wiggins just doesn't seem to have the fire either

But that is definitely some impressive defense by Smart.

Not really. The 3 rarely sets picks, the 4 or 5 does most times. I'm pretty sure Smart can't guard 4s or 5s. And if by any chance the 3 sets the pick, the bigger guy is now guarding Smart's man (quicker guard) and they'll just take advantage of that match-up.

Switches do not happen on every pick by the way; teams actually hedge and rotate back to their match-ups most of the time. So again, Smart guarding the 3 doesn't have some HUGE impact that will severely interrupt opponents' possessions. Pretty sure Stevens would rather have Green rotate back to guard the 3 than to leave Smart on Green's guy, whether Smart can guard the guy or not.

A guy who likes to try to lockdown others is always welcome.   Guys who do it to people not their position have indomitable spirit and fire.

+2
He can't guard Lebron, Melo or even Green because green would shoot over him with ease.
