I was hoping we'd add an off guard with this pick but do you guys like Gary Harris or James Young better? Harris just seems like  Joe Dumars type to me. Good scorer, great defender, tough - more along the lines of Bradley, Smart re intensity but with a good stroke.

James Young seems like a good scorer but defensively weak?

What are your thoughts? Who would you have preferred, assuming an off guard selection, with the 17th, and why?

Thanks.

Harris is a good defender, not a great one.  A lot like Courtney Lee on both sides of the ball.  A better bet to be a long-term NBA role-player than Young, but Young's superior size and length give him more upside.

Honestly, I think Young can be the better player.  More upside if for nothing else, his height and length.  Young is certainly less polished though.

But I wasn't all that happy with the pick.  I thought Hood would have been a better pick.  Too many guards already.  Needed a possible backup for SF.

I would have preferred Harris...

Good two way potential who can handle the ball a little bit, can shoot in spot up/off screen/catch and release situations, doesn't command a lot of touches, and defend at a good level. Also he was coached tough in college - gives me the vibe that he will have a long career in the NBA just based off his defensive effort and work ethic.

Smart and Harris would have meshed really well together both offensively and defensively

Eh, this is a tough one... I didn't expect Harris to be there at 17 so I never thought of him being selected by us... I REALLY wanted Young with 17 and it happened so I'm really happy, but Harris would've been fine too.

Only problem is, if they drafted Harris they could be really full at G. with small guys too.

I think Young has a lot better upside. He has good length and is still young as Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. He can score the ball and his size and decent athletic ability can turn into very solid defense with the right fundamentals.

I also think Young can play the 3 (obviously) and the 2. Harris couldn't play the 1 or the 3 so there's less flexibility and upside there.

it was between young, harris, and hood. all 3 were projected to be gone by 17, with young long gone before that possibly in top 11.

Young, more length, higher upside. Harris is the better player now, but we aren't contending now, so it's important we get guys who could grow with the team.

CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Harris is the better player now,

That is debatable.   I think Young had a better run in the NCAA's.

If Brad Stevens is the coach we all think he is then he will coach this kid up. And as he grows stronger and quicker from his 18year old body his 7 foot wingspan and 8'8'' standing reach will be a terror for opposing offenses....especially with Marcus Smart right next to him.

I think with the help of Marcus Smart pushing him defensively and Stevens coaching him up, James Young will grow in to a great 2 way player.

When the C's were up with their 2nd pick, I was hoping they'd take Harris, and if not him, Young.  So while I'm happy with Young, Harris was my top choice.

I really like Smart and Young.
I am tired of us being the 98 lb weakling.

Like KG's Knee I would have preferred Hood.

Standing reach:

Young: 8'8"
Harris: 8'0"
=8" reach advantage

both mid to late 1st round picks, I guess low risk, so let's see how the season plays out or watch their summer league productions
