A possible reunion between Celtics head coach Brad Stevens and his former player at Butler, Gordon Hayward, sounds unlikely in Boston.

It's not that the Celtics don't have interest in the Jazz swingman - they do - it's just that the Jazz have just as much (if not more) interest in retaining him.

Gordon is a restricted free agent, but Jody Genessy of the Deseret News in Utah reports that the Jazz are prepared to match any offer that Hayward gets. He reports that the Suns, Celtics, and Bobcats are all interested.

He also reports that the Suns are expected to make a "significant offer, possibly a max deal", but that Utah would match that as well.

guess we can cross him off Danny's list . I don't think he would be a great fit anyways, would rather have Smart's defense at the SG position.

The Knicks were going to match any offer on Jeremy Lin, too.  ;)

Good news,  massively overrated player and doubt Danny would overpay for him anyway.  Just not that good a player.

I guess we can cross the Suns and Jazz off the "teams that might have common sense" list.

OK then switch gears. This, and their drafting of Exum! might open the way for us to get Alec Burks... Especially if we are planning to trade rondo.

Burks has size to play either wing.  I would love (as I have said many times) to get Burks...and also make a play for Gobert as well.

Smart, burks and green would be a nice backcourt... Or even Rondo, smart and burks if we trade Green.

What if they got Green or Bradley back by S&T Hayward?

I bet they don't mean any offer.  They're not paying him the max.  Regardless, for the Celtics to have signed Hayward, it probably was going to have to be through a sign-and-trade, so I don't think this changes much anything.  The Jazz are mostly telling other teams that if you really want Hayward, give a call before making the offer sheet (since by league rules, once Hayward signs an offer sheet, a sign-and-trade can't be negotiated).  By sending this message, it will also drive down interest in Hayward, and ultimately lowering his contract

Expect similar language coming from Ainge about Bradley.  It's all posturing.

What does it matter? The most we can offer him is the MLE anyway...it'd have to be a sign-and-trade no matter what. He'd have to demand that he wants to play here and only here for them to let them loose, probably.

I like him a lot as a player, and hope we do a sign & trade for him, but MAX contract? Talk about stupid! I thought MAX guys were at least suppose to be All-stars? Anyone offering him a max contract will never be a contender.

This is not legit news. What are the Jazz supposed to say at this stage? Just like the Knicks did with Lin, if the offer is out of their range, they will let him go. They are not going to announce what their limit actually is though. Saying you will match all offers at least leaves some hope of discouraging teams from offering him a large deal, and allows you some leverage for a sign and trade.

If they're going to match any offer I would call their bluff and offer him a large contract just to get them cap-strapped for the future. Then again, I'm not an NBA GM and many would hate me for those tactics.

But this goes back to when Pekovic was a RFA. I thought teams were dumb to not offer him a deal knowing the TWolves would just match it anyway. Drive up the price and make them deal. Worst comes to worst, you land him...just hopefully you needed him.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!
