Odds BKN '16-18 picks are high?

Very good chance they are Top 5
Good chance they are Top 10
Most likely high lottery picks
They will make the playoffs from 16-18, so low picks

I say high.

Hopefully BKN's decline is rapid this season.

They still have DWill, JJohnson, and Lopez. In a weak East that will carry them to an 8-seed maybe...

DWill looks really old and aged a ton this season. I hope the Nets blow this season then blow it up in 2016 so the pick will be high.

their future isn't bright

It'll depend heavily on the other teams in the East, and they seem to be getting weaker by the season.

I think Pierce and KG will take them to the playoffs next year (which doesn't affect our picks obviously).

Looking past that, Johnson will be 34, Williams will be 31 and certainly on the downside of his career. Lopez is one injury away from ending his career; however, I still view him as a very good center.

They have the market of NY to entice more FAs than say, Boston. I think it's safe to assume one of those three years they'll make the playoffs, one they will give us a good pick and one will be a late lotto pick.

I don't see Pierce going back there.. I think LAC is a legit landing spot for him this offseason. He's LA native, docs there, better team

Since they have no picks they have no reason to outwardly tank those 3 years. Im confident at least one will be a lottery pick though.

The real key is that they have no cap room and zero trade assets. Nobody is trading for Iso Joe's horrible contract. Nobody is giving much for the rapidly declining DWill. Nobody is trading much for Brook Lopez's rapidly deteriorating body. They'd need to convince players to take the minimum to play for them. So...yeah, I think they're still a playoff team next year, but after that, they are likely to drop rapidly until their big contracts (JJ, DWill, Lopez) are done.

do we think heats bench players are still better from the nets?
that is why nets drafted young players to have quick legs from the bench,
with the heat loosing chalmers maybe, shane battier retiring and some other players gone
even though heat opt out and signed someone, i don't think there is a chalmers and battier type who they can replace,
nets starting 5 are a slow team, lopez and kg at pf didn't work out well, but you still need someone to guard d-wade and lebron and bosh from the starting line-up come playoffs

if pacers lose some players, i don't see them winning anything...

Their ability to attract free agents based on the market they are in is irrelevant because they are cap locked for the near future.

Here is their salary cap situation: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/brooklyn.htm

Basically, they are all locked up until the end of the 2016 season. Until then, they can only add salary with MLE, vet min, sign-and-trades, in the draft.. you know the deal.

What we really need to hope for, is that the Nets STAY COMPETITIVE next year. Because they actually have their first rounder next year. We definitely need them to stay out of the lottery. Ideally, they'll be picking later than they were slotted this year (at #17).

If they stink this season, and get a lottery pick. Than maybe they strike gold and the value of our draft picks take a hit.

But if they are a top 4 seed in the east next season (really if they stay outside the lottery at all), we have every reason to believe that the 2016 1st rounder could be very valuable.

Our swap in 2017, and our first rounder in 2018. I'm optimistic about those assets. But really, they are completely up in the air. Their far too difficult to predict, and their value will be determined by whether or not Jay-Z can lure a new wave of stars to brooklyn.

Another thing to look out for is a Brook Lopez trade. But he'll likely have to get healthly before that can happen.

You also have to account for that not having 1st rounders in 14',16',18' (plus the swap provision in '17) will turn them into a less desirable free agent destination. Being unable to add young talent will take its toll at some point, for sure.

I believe Atlanta has the right to swap picks with the Nets for 2015 draft as part of the Joe Johnson trade. So I think the chances are good the Nets won't have a high draft pick next year which helps us.

MLE

The difference between a lottery pick and not...isn't going to be someone the Nets signed with the MLE.

They could sell the team, I think there is a decent shot at a lotto pick or two or three for us
