Here is their salary cap situation:
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/brooklyn.htmBasically, they are all locked up until the end of the 2016 season. Until then, they can only add salary with MLE, vet min, sign-and-trades, in the draft.. you know the deal.
What we really need to hope for, is that the Nets STAY COMPETITIVE next year. Because they actually have their first rounder next year. We definitely need them to stay out of the lottery. Ideally, they'll be picking later than they were slotted this year (at #17).
If they stink this season, and get a lottery pick. Than maybe they strike gold and the value of our draft picks take a hit.
But if they are a top 4 seed in the east next season (really if they stay outside the lottery at all), we have every reason to believe that the 2016 1st rounder could be very valuable.
Our swap in 2017, and our first rounder in 2018. I'm optimistic about those assets. But really, they are completely up in the air. Their far too difficult to predict, and their value will be determined by whether or not Jay-Z can lure a new wave of stars to brooklyn.
Another thing to look out for is a Brook Lopez trade. But he'll likely have to get healthly before that can happen.
You also have to account for that not having 1st rounders in 14',16',18' (plus the swap provision in '17) will turn them into a less desirable free agent destination. Being unable to add young talent will take its toll at some point, for sure.
