The 2016 draft. That's what you need to look forward to. This year will be a total waste, because this year the Rondos and the Jeff Greens will keep us juuusstt competitive enough that we'll be in line for like the 8th pick. So obviously we won't win a draft lottery (you can bet your wazoo on that) and then we'll get the 8th pick and like the 26th, only that won't come even close to replacing the outgoing talent....Rondo. So we'll be even more horrid the next year and be in line for like the 6th pick again only we will also get the Brooklyn pick, which will be like #4 and we will FINALLY .....START...to dig out. Without Rondo no free agents are even looking at our snowy town with high taxes.

I hope you like rebuilds and youth and the draft because that's what we have to look forward to now. Welcome to NBA draft Purgatory. The Hawks just welcomed us at the door.

it was gonna be long and slow no matter if rondo and green are on the team or not.

at least we dumped KG and pierce before it was really too late. there were people on here that wanted to keep them. imagine trying to trade 6 pt / 6rb KG ? theres no way we would have gotten all those draft picks... we got freakin james young out of kg so far!

i think we will be in the top 8 in the next draft as well. i do not believe Rondo and Smart will exist together because Smart is best at pg. I look at the draft and us drafting Smart shows we are going in new direction...even if we say dif, thats just a mirage.

Have you already forgotten that we have multiple first round picks and young assets (and that includes Smart and Young) we can flip to land a star or maybe two?

It's not even July yet. We dont know what's going to happen, but we do know we have enough gunpowder to make some fireworks. And who knows, maybe Smart and Young pans out with Rondo and we now have a core moving forward. How about be patient first and see what happens?

I think it's easier to make trades involving picks before a draft and not after it.  Once you start picking guys you better hope they're guys other teams like because if they're thinking "I don't need Smart. I have R Rubio and I like him, and I have about a million wings so I don't really like Young either" then you don't really have as many assets as you hope you do. Teams also don't usually like assets years out as much as they do right now.

It's possible KO, Young, and Smart could all tear up the summer league to pieces while Shabazz Muhammed and Zach Levine both tear ACLs and then maybe they'll call us.

In the mean time I'm not betting on that. We took our best shot and offered our pieces. They said no and then got on the phone with every other team in the league.

Lots of teams have multiple assets. The Magic. The 76ers. Whoop de doo. We have assets.

Gunpowder?   Are you serious?   We literally just saw we didn't have enough "gunpowder" to do anything significant.   If we did we would have Kevin Love and not two redundant point guards and an 18 year old that's useless for the next 4 years.

This is what happens when things don't break your way. When your star turns down an extension. When you lose the coin flip with Utah. When you move down in the lottery. When the draft itself doesn't go your way.

This is where you end up.  In NBA Purgatory.

Luckily we have a GM that is above average and does things like trading guys at the end of their rope to reallllyy dumb teams for a bunch of picks, but still.

NBA Purgatory is a long hard climb.

We have more than enough gunpowder to pull off "significant" trades.  We're just not stupid enough to blow it all on one shot.

Danny stated was looking heavily into trades prior to the draft (when is he NOT looking at potential trades?).  He just didn't find a deal to his liking.

I don't know why people ASSUME we don't have enough for Love... did any of you think we didn't want to offer up everything that all of you seem so willing to? Maybe they don't want him as badly as some of you do!

Does it really make sense that we can't afford Love with all the picks we have? Not to me... it makes more sense that we weren't willing to give up the farm for him.

Not saying we won't over pay for him, just saying we have the assets, are we willing to give them is the question. Personally, I hope we don't.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Is the trade deadline over? Just because we did not get Love on draft night doesnt mean we cant by February.

There are so many factors that could sway Minny.

Also, and I think I see where this thread is going. We're basically calling it done because we didnt get Kevin Love. Hey, there are other players we can get. We can sign and trade with the Knicks with the assets we have to sign Melo. Heck, Chris Bosh has opted out, he's a star. GSW wants to unload David Lee's contract, we can use what we have to acquire him. Greg Monroe, Gordon Hayward,  Pau Gasol. It may be a longshot but we may have assets to trade for Al Horford.

There are so many ways we can go, Kevin Love is not the be all - end all fix. Having future picks, young guys (better if they develop) helps us. There's a ton of time to figure everything out.

Jesus, just because we didnt have a deal by draft night doesnt mean we wont have the chance to get some again.

Nobody wants Jeff Green and nobody wants to give fair value for Rondo. Maybe teams want to see him fully healthy first.

Then we'll have to take back salary yadda yadda.  I'm not sure I have ever seen a team get fair value for trading their star.

I agree but I think the reality is nobody is calling us offering us anything all that great for all these assets we have.
Maybe once our rookies get seen doing well we will see what happens, but as we sit here today we are at the edge of a very long rebuild.

If we're really going for the loooong slow rebuild, we might as well tank until 2017... and draft Thon Maker.   http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wttjoWjzvm4  The kid is incredible.
