I'm one of the very few that still believes trading for Love is still very much possible.  I like the draft but anything short of landing Love or Melo or both, considering how much assets and picks we have, would be boarderline rebuilding failure.  FAs don't come here by choice so this is the only chance we have.  I don't want to bank the future on number 6 and 17 picks.  Is it still possible?  What are our chances here?  Thoughts?

The Celtics. What?s the plan here? The Celtics tanked this season, and it wasn?t until they tried to trade for Love that we all realized quite how barren that roster is. Beyond draft picks, all they had to offer were guys like Kelly Olynyk, Jeff Green and his gigantic deal, Jared Sullinger ? It was a pretty depressing reality check.

Now they have Marcus Smart as a point guard next to Rajon Rondo, plus James Young as a shooting guard who?s got tons of potential, but may not be ready to put it together for the next few years. I liked Young a lot, as a player who could develop on a good team in the mid-teens, like Phoenix. But Boston?s not that team.

all that can change though if Kelly Olynyk builds on his rookie campaign, and Sullinger improves on his 13ppg and 8rpg

This means we're going to suck for a very long time huh

all it means is that our "assets" havent matured enough yet where danny can use them as valuable chips. all that can change in a season. I also expect the brooklyn picks to have ALOT of value after next year when that team is blowing it up

They thought our roster wasn't barren and we won only 25 games?  Not our fault they didn't pay attention.  The front office was aware, saying that we stunk and of course we were going to draft best player available, because we needed help everywhere.  Sloppy commentary by grantland on this one, in my opinion.

No shot. At all.

Probably if he becomes a free agent next season and he might consider Boston. But then Gerald Wallace's cancerous contract.....eh.

I share your feelings that this deal is still probably alive. However, there is the possibility that we have been excluded from the bidding process because of irrational animosity by Taylor and Saunders over the Garnett fiasco(their point of view). I don't believe this to be true but I can't totally dismiss the possibility. The other problem I am starting to think about is Ainge himself. We wanted to do three things (get Love, get Asik and move into the second round) and wound up doing none of them. I am just afraid that Ainge has moved into a permanent lowball mode where he won't make a deal unless he is fleecing the other team. We have the assets and can make an offer that makes the Wolves go WOW!. Smart, Young, Sulinger, Olynyk , 2 future number ones (at least one Brooklyn pick) plus Bogans nonguaranteed contract and Anthony expiring for cap relief and filler if needed for Love. Our TPE for Martin giving them more cap relief . Bass expiring, Faverani expiring, and Babb non guaranteed for Budinger and  Brewer for even more cap relief. We are taking on guys we don't want but they, like Wallace, will soon become  expiring contracts that can be moved. Getting Love and to a lesser extent Martin who is still a good player is worth all this. By my very rough calculations, The Wolves would have at most 30 million against the cap at the end of next season if they do all of this.

Yeah, it's beginning to sink in that the Dark Ages are back - and that all the talk about fireworks was season ticket renewal hyperbole. If you renewed, you've been taken.

It feels exactly like Rick Pitino has walked through that door.

Melo is meeting with the Lakers--I have a HUGE, BAD feeling, it will end up with Kobe/LeBron/Melo Lakers team...I mean, c'mon---LeBron can top his Miami move with this.

Jerks.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Is it really over? Can we offer a few of the Nets pick, Green/Sully/Olynyk/cap relief and 2 extra picks for Kevin Love while absorbing Martin's contract, while keeping Smart? I would love a back court of Rondo/Smart, and Love as our PF...

I don't know. I hope Ainge thinks otherwise.

i think it's possible. the offseason is long. FA season hasn't even hit yet.

I hope we do get to see some fireworks before training camp starts. If we can't secure Love, i'm all for trading Rondo. I'd rather see us land a promising prospect than scoring a deal centered around picks. I think we have enough picks as it is.
