Reason: both guys need the ball in their hands to be most effective.  You can ask smart to play off the ball but then you wont utilize his passing skills properly. His ability to grab a rebound and go end to end would go down the toilet. Unless smart gets to play point when rondo sits

Rondo to me will be a guy reluctant to share the ball. He is up for a new contract and the last thing he wants is to lower his stat totals. He wants to win but with him putting up near triple double numbers

I cant see this duo being able to work like the bledsoe and dragic combo.

Solution imo is to trade rondo and or green and get that legit center the team needs to move fwd/complete the rebuild

who cares if the pieces dont fit? what if rondo leaves then this argument is null. we're not even close to being contenders anyways, we're in asset collection and player development stage. who else were we suppposed to draft? randle who has 1 post move and is a worse version of sully? or vonleh, the future bust who quit on his team in indiana?

It'll work.

There, short and sweet.

It will if rondo respects smarts capabilities.  Rondo has to get back to doing other things on the court other than boss everyone else around.

It works fine enough with Bradley, and Smart can do pretty much all Bradley can and then some. So you're exaggerating the problem.

You say it won't work...Danny says it will...who to believe...who to believe. :)

Besides, he's still a kid who has a lot to learn...who better to learn it from than Rondo?

Where are you getting this about Smart needing to control the ball to be effective?  If Rondo can get him the ball on spots on the floor where he can create offense this will actually make him more effective.  If anything, running the point was not necessarily the best thing for him this past year.

That's what they said with Dragic and Bledsoe.

Both need the ball in their hands to be effective. Both are in the top 50 in USG rate last season, so you can safely assume that they have the ball most of the time. How'd that turn out again?

We should probably give it a chance before completely dismissing the idea of it not working.

I think they can co-exist.  I'm excited at the prospect of the two of them in the backcourt.

A lot of teams like having multiple ball-handlers on the court at once, your NBA Champions being one of them.  I'm not sure how effective they'll be together, but my hesitance has nothing to do with either man's passing or ability to drive the length of the court.

I've always liked the idea of 2 PG's playing side by side. 1 passive, the other aggressive. Is only evident when rondo sits down, Smart will run the floor for the 2nd Unit.  I honestly think 2 point guards will have the vision to see multiple views of how the game is playing out.  If they can co exist, might be scary who knows!

The big issue is when everyone brings up Parker/Mills or Dragic/Bledsoe, all of those combos feature at least one guy who has a capable perimeter game. Rondo/Smart is going to be a defensive terror, but offensively the floor spacing simply won't work. Even when Doc was running Rondo/Bradley, at least Bradley had developed a competent 3-point shot. It remains to be seen if Smart can develop a consistent three.

Can we at least let them have A SINGLE practice or scrimmage together before we totally dismiss them...lol.

So why does Rondo and Avery work?  You are telling me Smart can't cut to the hoop, post up, or help in anyway while Rondo has the ball?  You are putting to much into his college team where he HAD to be the ball handler.  His skill set should mesh well with Rondo where he can move without the ball, seal off a defender in the lane and rondo can drop it in for the easy 2.  I think they can work well with each other.  And we know he'll be working on his shot so once that gets just a little better then he'll be fine.  He has good mechanics, just needs more practice.

Marcus Smart was a 2-guard his ENTIRE HS career.

He came to OKST and played a lot of point his frosh season.

This year, I saw a lot of OKST. MArcus Smart had some of his best games when Markell Brown was playing Pg and Smart was the SG.

He can post up, cut hard and catch off the wing and attack the basket hard and when's he hot he WILL knock down shots.
