While he was most likely the best player on the board you have to think the idea was to draft a cheaper on probably better version of AB.. While their games arent exact Smart is still a combo guard who plays defense and can get to the basket. Bradley was terrible at that, he has a better outside shot but Smart has more intagibles, size, strength, and tenacity.

So instead of paying the proposed 7 million salary Smart can do the same and maybe more at 2.7 mill.

I thought the exact same thing, was getting very annoyed when I hear people say Smart = Rondo gone. I honestly think Smart has many values

Either,

1. Play the 2 along side with Rondo and Bradley off the bench
2. Play backup to Rondo and Bradley and probably eventually replacing Bradley
3. Play along side Rondo and Bradley bolts
4. Play along side Rondo and potentially take over if we decide to trade Rondo or Rondo bolts

I wonder if backdoor cuts and Marcus + Rondo= easy score.

I was thinking that as well. The summer is nowhere near over and many things can happen. He can be a Rondo replacement or a AB replacement we don't know. It would be nice to have someone else that can competently handle the ball.

He has that pitbull type of defense. I'm hoping he finishes better than Avery on those cuts. I remember quite a few times AB got the ball right under the basket for a layup and it just doesn't go in.
I moved the cheese.

Keep in mind that Smart should be able to play some minutes at SF as well, next to Rondo and Bradley.

With such a deep draft just taking place, the market for Bradley might not be as hot as you think, and we could use more than one defensive stalwart in the backcourt rotation, not to mention Bradley's outside shooting.

Plus, why would we pay Rondo the max or close to it when we already have Smart.

Letting Bradley go might save the Celtics 4-5 million or so, but trading Rondo would save the Celtics much much more.

He's not replacing anyone, in my opinion.  People seem to be forgetting that NBA players don't play the full 48 minutes.  That's why there are back ups.  I have no problem with Smart getting 26-30 MPG in his rookie season, backing up both guard positions.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

He's a Hulk version of AB. AB couldn't shoot out side the arc his first couple years, so I'm not concerned with Smart and his shooting. Stevens said Smart was a better shooter than people gave him credit for, and hit 5 or 6 in a row in a live 5 on 5 game when his team needed them the most.

This also makes it easier to move AB if he wants the 8 mill payday, and there is a team, "cough"(TWOLVES) "cough, cough" that may want to take him on at the rate.  :P
