I don't see any reason why Pressey will be gone. Cheap, good back-up pass-first PG. Young, good back-up pass-first PG. I expect he'll be here longer than Rondo.

He's on an unguaranteed contract, which makes him fodder to be shipped out in a possible trade.

Pressey doesn't seem to have potential other than as a backup and it is inexpensive to get rid of him, so he is a very likely casualty of any roster moves the Celtics might make in the off-season if the Celtics need to clear a roster spot.

I also expect Ainge to kick the tires on an undrafted point guard and look for an upgrade at the third-string spot.

Doesn't really make sense. Cs have plenty of ****** players on similar deals. Pressey is good value on his deal. If traded -- he'd be traded for his value, not for his ability to immediately be cut.

I think you're underestimating how much the Cs like Pressey.

Phil Pressey is nowhere close to a deal-breaker talent.  He's not so good that Ainge shouldn't be looking at undrafted free agents for a possible upgrade.

I'm pretty sure Ainge would have jumped at the opportunity if someone was willing to trade a late second-round pick for Pressey, so I think Pressey is less valuable than that.

deal-breaker talent? hyberbole = end of discussion....

More like getting Smart is like getting 0 players.

IN:  Smart
Out:  Bradley

Sounds like it will be a wash.

Bird. Don't understand the hate. I think this guy is Kyle Lowry on steroids basically. He's tenacious, a leader, and has a killer instinct. He's a competitor and I'd pay to watch him go at rondo in practice.

Smart is a bully in a good way. Tough. Nasty. He's got am edge in the same mold of kg.

Because he cant move on from the fact that Exum went before we picked, even though most mocks had him out of reach to us to begin with.

He's consumed by it that he can't see that Smart is also a very good prospect and has star potential as well, not to mention that he may have better mental make up and intangibles than Exum.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Actually I moved on a while ago. Have you?   I've been convinced smart will be a fine player ... Worst case tony Allen.

My point is that if we lose mini tony Allen (Bradley) in order to add tony Allen ... It's not too significant of an upgrade.

Wrong.  Smart is head and shoulders above Tony Allen.  And I love Tony Allen.  Head and shoulders above Bradley also.  Smart could be Wade light but you choose to compare him to TA and Bradley.  Poor, poor comparisons.

They aren't my comparisons.  That's what I heard smart compared to... Tony Allen or poor mans Eric Bledsoe.  It was just simmons and rose who said it though.  I trust Ainge... He's a great GM.  I'm fine with the pick.

A good scouting report, with video of his interview and scouting video can be found here:

http://www.celticsnuts.com/blog/2014/06/26/marcus-smart-picked-6-overall/

My question with Smart is where he fits in the league.  I really don't see him as a point guard in the traditional sense or a two guard.  So he really is in that Tony Allen no mans land.  I think his upside is a Lance Stevenson type, but his downside is Tony Allen.  And maybe without the elite defense.

Don't hate the pick as I don't think there was much more out there to pick from.  The Sixth pick in the NBA draft is risky business.  Always has been, always will be.

Phil Pressey is a d-league level player, he has zero value beyond his contract filler.

Small PGs who shoot 30% don't have value.

The Celtics FA likes him more than you do. The Celtics FA also likes him more than the non-guaranteed contracts of Chris Babb, Chris Johnson, or Keith Bogans. The Celtics FA also likes him better than the expiring corpse of Joel Anthony. My point: the Cs would attempt to use all that filler before making Pressey filler.

Maybe a cross between Wade and Jason Kidd as Smart's absolute ceiling, but not as good scorer as Wade or as good a passer as Kidd.
