Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said there was applause in the team's draft war room when it became clear Smart would be available at No. 6.

"Our war room is very happy with our pick," said Grousbeck. "My job is to be part of that and to be supportive. Our basketball guys are very excited and have been focusing on Marcus for several weeks. We really liked the top six or seven kids in the draft quite a bit, but I really thought he?s pretty exceptional in a couple of ways and am really looking forward to having him."

Later Grousbeck added: "We think that this kid really has some special attributes. We like the fact that he s an instigator, back to Red [Auerbach]. As Red told me personally when I came in, 'You need instigators, not retaliators.' This kid is energetic. He s a bull. He s a force. When I met him, he filled the doorway. He s got that physique and that drive and that attitude that we really like around the Celtics."

love the pick. marcus is awesome and has so many tools, and he's a mini KG enforcer/instigator.

I am absolutely shocked. I believe this is the first time there has ever been applause in a team's draft room when the pick was made. I also think this is the first time that an owner has praised his team's pick. Get the duck boats warmed up for June, 2015.... ;D

no comments from Ainge yet on Smart? He's been pretty honest in the past about his draft selections, calling Olynyk a complementary player but not a star last year for example.

I hope not. He should be getting us a second round pick right now.

I am hoping he is in the back room quietly plotting trades to find a center and a star to play with Rondo to make the team relevant again.

I'm hoping for a S&T for Gortat, that'd be huge.

ainge is taking a nap after not sleeping for the past 49 hours. he will wake up around pick 50, make a call to buy the pick for some cash, and throw a dart at a board and pick a random player like he always does.

Was hoping we would be able to get Cleanthony Early when he slipped to the second round.

I'm fine if there are none. Making smart basketball decisions doesn't always = fireworks.

Is it worth pointing out that Ainge seems to love this kind of players?

youre so busy trolling youre not even reading the posts anymore.

The applause wasnt after our pick, it was after Utah picked Exum.  In other words, Smart was the one they wanted.
