The Boston Celtics will select James Young with the 17th pick in the NBA Draft, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

He is a 6'7 SG

Danny picks another high school stud who slipped a bit... (bradley, sullinger, etc.) this guy was the #1 shooting guard coming into college.

I am actually way more excited about Young than I am about Smart.  I thought Young played pretty well in that KU stretch run the the ncaa tourney.  not afraid to take the big shot, the size to attack the rim, and the athleticism to be great on D.

His confidence and rim moves inside remind me some of Pierce.

We need this guy.

Relative to where they were drafted, I agree.  I'm pretty noncommittal about Smart - I think he's a lock to be a solid NBA player but with very little chance to be a great one.

Young brings some of that upside that Smart lacks - somebody you can dream on.  Get him away from the "playmaking" of the Harrison twins and let's see what he can do.

I honestly can't believe it, these were 2 of my favorite players in the entire draft and Ainge took them. You guys are going to love these 2 players. You are going to take both of them and hug them tight to your bossom. Seriously Celtics fans are going to fall in love.

He had to take a lot of low pct shots in bad situations for Kentucky, his 3 pt % doesn't do him justice.

I like both our picks. FInally a big shooting guard who can shoot.

Smart, Young, Green, Olynyk, and Sullinger.

I look forward to seeing them play together.

I like the pick but what about Rodney Hood? No one has mentioned him and he still hasn't been picked (Thunder just picked). Thought that was odd
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Young won me over in the finals.

He could get his shoot out or inside when he needed it.  Very smooth and in TOTAl control.

Poor man's Joe Johnson. And that is a complement for a guy picked at 17.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'm hoping he turns into a Klay Thompson kind of player. A guy who can be a deadly shooter and defend well because of his athleticism.

Either way, loved the pick. Lots of room to grow for Young.

interesting tidbit, James Young's agent is Jay-Z. hes the only NBA person Jay-Z primarily represents (he secondarily  represents durant as well).
