If you think about it most of the times a rumors involving a player weeks or even days before the draft just dont happen and another player falls from the sky on draft night. Even someone that didnt have a single rumor around them beforehand.. It could be a player who wants out, a player that the team does not want to pay to an extention , or a team clearing cap space..

Possibilities Joakim Noah, Deandre Jordan, Westbrook, Ibaka..

I think trades like that normally come from lottery or mid-level teams who are unconvinced by their team's direction and want to trade their star (usually a low level star who can't live up to prime billing) for a lottery pick in order to rebuild / retool.

So I wouldn't look at guys like Westbrook, D.Jordan or J.Noah because those are amongst the best teams in the league (when D-Rose is healthy). Teams who have a strong core and are not looking to break things up. I would look more at teams that finished just inside or outside the playoffs last season and try to figure out if any of them might be open to changing course.

New York trading Tyson Chandler is a good example of that type of team. Finished 9th in the East. Underperforming squad with a core management does not believe in. Looking to change directions. Made a (low level) star available in a trade.

Call whomever you want a 'star', but after the Nets deal, I always thought Ainge was after 3 players:

Kevin Love
Marc Gasol
Gordon Hayward

East

Cleveland - Waiters, Varejao, Thompson
Detroit - Josh Smith

Not many teams to choose from in the East. Several teams are either enjoying a rare moment of success (WAS, CHA, TOR) or are already engaged in a major rebuilding process (MIL, PHI, ORL). New York already made their move with Tyson Chandler. Melo only other star on name. Next best player is Shumpert who they seem to have made available. Orlando has already moved Afflalo too. Vucevic is the another guy they may contemplate moving during their rebuilding but I reckon they hold onto him for now. Revisit that idea in 12 months time.

West

Memphis - Zach Randolph
Minnesota - Pekovic
Denver - Faried, Gallinari
New Orleans - Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans (trade one or both)
Utah - Kanter, Favors (good chance they'll keep one and trade the other in next 12 months)

More options in the West due to high level of competitiveness.

I would guess Zach Randolph.  The Grizzlies are rumored to be negotiating a straight up salary dump in which they would give up a first round pick to get rid of the contract of Tayshaun Prince.  His negotiations for an extension have reportedly stalled and he is said to be considering declining his player option for next season.

Would teams that were interested in Kevin Love also be interested in working out a sign-and-trade for Z-bo?

Randolph makes sense.. I brought Noah and Jordon into it because they may be making big FA moves and with their contracts they could easily be moved

I'd like to see Randolph on the Celtics if we could nab someone to defend the rim.
