Reports now are that the Lakers want to dump Nash + #7 to pursue both LeBron and Melo. Houston still has designs on dumping salary as well, and possibly Cleveland and Atlanta.

How far can we get as a facilitator?

#17, Bogans, Faverani, Johnson FOR #7, Nash, Henry, Bazemore
Trade exception + ? to Houston for Asik

Worth working our way to something like?

Rondo / Nash
Bradley
Green / Gordon (#7)
Sullinger / Bass
Asik / Olynyk
+ Embiid (#6)

We don't want or need Nash. We want young talent with upside to sell high.  We already have enough salary with all the nets veterans. Rather get an undrafted rookie

Lakers wouldn't do that.

No, we want the #7 pick.

I get that we don't want or need Nash, but Nash is an expiring.  Wallace, Rondo, Humphries, Bass, Joel Anthony, Bradley, Faverani and Bogans will all be expired or on new deals by the end of 2015.  We will have cap space galore, plus KO, Sully and three lottery picks in good drafts (2 this year, 1 likely next year).  Tanking sucks but keep it in perspective.  We're not going to be Cleveland or Minny or Milwuakee or something.  We'll be good within 3 years.

You mean just Wallace, right?

Humphries - FA
Bogans - will either be waived or traded
Brooks - has already been traded

BTW, Nash would probably never play with us. He'll likely agree to a buyout and sign with LAC.

That's part of the upside. I think the Lakers would be the ones to pass on this deal, but of course the point is to take advantage when another team needs to dump some salary, and between Bogans and our trade exception we are better prepared than anyone to do that. If Nash walks in this scenario, we've basically just gotten the #17 for the #7 so that LA can sign LeBron (which hurts, but it's not like we could STOP them)

As an FYI, they can trade neither Bazemore or Henry.  I don't know if you actually wanted them or not, but neither are under contract next year as far as I can tell (Bazemore is a restricted free agent).

I also don't know why you're sending them Faverani -- they're clearing cap space.  Faverani is guaranteed next year.  This doesn't help them.  If it's for salary matching purposes, the trade can be agreed to on draft night and consummate in July, when Bogans, Johnson, and Babb will make salaries match.

I'm fine with taking on Nash for #7, but I would not be fine sending them back #17.  Not worth clogging up salary for a jump of 10 spots.  I'd give them back no more than a protected 2015 pick (i.e. the lesser of our 2015 1st rounders).

I agree with the general premise.
With Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and potentially Chris Bosh being free agents, teams like the Rockets, Warriors, Clippers, Bulls and other are trying to dump salary to make a run at these players.

I think using our non guaranteed contracts as well as our trade exception we can pick up some real talent because their old teams are trying to simply cast them off.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I was just stuffing the salary differential. Bogans isn't enough to take back Nash, so you need to throw in a little more $$ and then take some back. Faverani might actually be able to play for them, but the real point is to give them maximum savings and/or a cheap starter.

Bazemore is a free agent, Fav & Bogans have no value. I just don't know Lal would trade #7 for #17 since they have only 3 players under contract and have enough cap space to sign an all-star.

Bogans and Johnson have value because their contracts aren't guaranteed. That's a big help to a team trying to clear cap space immediately.
