It was pretty good.

I didn't realize the Celts were in talks to deal their 1st rounders for Scottie Pippen and Luc Longley.

Makes you wonder what could've been.

Anyway, I recommend checking it out if you haven't seen it.

Safe to say, after the Bulls trade talks died, they should've kept Billups (not traded him later that season) and then drafted Tracy McGrady with the 6th pick.

That Celtics regime in the 90s looked like they did not know what they were doing.

Yeah, I made a thread about it the other day.  It was awesome.  I agree with Max, can we have more of these?  It was depressing, frustrating, and hilarious all at the same time haha.  If that trade for Pippen had gone through, Scottie would have retired, never mind MJ.  Why would he have wanted to play for that god-awful team?  It was cool seeing Jackie Mac and Tanguay - "What time is the practice?"  The hair, the optimism, the size of the laptops.  My oh my.  Do the Celtics still have draft hosting-type parties like that at The Garden?  I thought I saw an ad for one a long time ago.

Lol, probably. Playing for Pitino would make anyone retire.

Mike Gorman looked younger with a lot less gray.

Tommy has always looked the same (lol.)

Funniest part of the show was when they showed Willie Mays interview that Jersey Red guy who was Pitino's fraternity cook and they were talking about player salaries.

Jersey Red threw a dig at Willie Mays saying "hey with that much money, you can buy yourself an actual suit."(lol)

Haha, yeah.  It looked like Tommy had that whole Just For Men Gel thing going on.  I was still a kid, so I missed all of this, but I've read about it.  I mean, I watched every game of that 18-game losing streak, but you guys had the 90s.  My first season was 04-05, so I've never seen this 'Jersey Red' guy.  Pitino's fraternity cook?  I saw that when it popped up on the screen.  Well, he's obviously qualified to be a member of the brain trust ::)  Did you catch the part when they showed Willie Maye interviewing some fans, and after Max said something, Holley went, "You like big girls."  Um, what kind of a comment is that?  Maybe he forgot that they were on the air or something lol.  Of course, Max also made fun of Stevie Wonder with the sunglasses, so...

On another front, who makes the announcement of their selection two spots before their turn?  I'd say that that could have backfired, but Pitino did that for us anyway.  I think the whole era can be summed up by picturing Voldemort saying, "He LIES!" ;D  It's odd that I can't find a gif of that.  Hmmm.

Here's the first sign that we were doomed - at 1:42 of the video, Pitino says that we should employ the strategy used by the Bulls at the center spot, where they had 3 players to utilize 15 fouls :o  I'm going to have to stop him right there.  It's 18 fouls you moron.  NBA players are gone after their 6th, not 5th.  Oh yeah, that's the type of guy that you want in charge ::)

The moment at 2:12 or so is funny as well, when Jackie MacMullan asks him if he's seen Dino Radja work out and Pitino says that he was, "playing with our assistant coach one on one."  What's the deal here, are we supposed to be more impressed with the basketball abilities of your assistant coach? ;D

Oh yeah, and Scottie Pippen is a top 20 player of all time?   :o  What a clown.

thank god for Wyc & co!

I did...that was a running joke when Maxwell used to be on with Ordway and Holley when he was doing the games on WEEI.

Apparently, Max has a certain taste with women and now everyone knows him for it (lol)

Didn't watch the special but the one, painful story from that year but the fake lotteries they did as a trial run (not sure if it was covered).  I don't remember the details exactly but as I recall, they did at least one (and maybe multiple) draws for the folks in the room to show them the process.  In those draws, the Celts usually got the #1 pick and in one case, ended up with #1 and #2.  But once the real one was done, we obviously know how it went.

So in my mind, Duncan was absolutely the one that got away.  I have not been surprised on iota by his career, as I knew he would be this good.

Pitino would have traded him.

I'm well aware of how bad that decade was, I'm just trying to give a point of reference as to when I started watching so that I don't sound like a complete moron down the road somewhere haha.  You guys lived it :( so you're the real fans, imho.  My uncle was a huge fan, but, correct me if I'm wrong, it seemed like all of the Celtics fans from the previous eras sort of went into hiding during the 90s.  It must have been brutal for everyone.  Speaking of Wyc and Co, I believe they interviewed Paul Gaston during the 97 special.  Ugh.

Wow, stuff like that actually got on the air?  Well, I'm sure that such a topic was much more entertaining than the team at that time, unfortunately, haha.  Still, though, keep that stuff to yourselves.
