Aaron Gordon reminds me of Gerald Wallace back when he cared about playing. High energy, solid defender, above average rebounder, and limited offensive skills.

I agree, but Gordon is two inches taller and more athletic.

G Wallace is 6'8 isn't he? Gordon isn't 6'10. If he was he'd be a much more interesting prospect.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

He's still a very interesting prospect now.

Wallace is listed at 6'7" in shoes.  Gordon is 6'7.75" barefoot which puts him at 6'9" in shoes.

Gerald Wallace was a heckuva player just a few years ago. Man, if he was that player now, I wouldn't want to trade him.

I was a fan of his game too.  I can't believe how fast he regressed.

Playing the way he does you can see why. Dude beat himself up nightly.

This isn't completely implausible. Harris isn't a lock as the SF of the future and there are very intriguing PG prospects further down in the draft. Payton, Ennis and Napier all project to be quality NBA PGs. Not sure you find a player with Gordon's athleticism and IQ down further but who knows.

I'd still bet that the Magic pick Smart or Exum at #4 but trading down to #6 where both Smart and Gordon will likely be available isn't the worst idea. Something like #4 + 17 isn't out of the question. If Embiid drops I'm sure the C's would make that move.

According to this mock draft, Exum is projected to be drafted by the Celts

http://nbadraft.net/2014mock_draft

I like the resources on this site, but the mocks are not reliable, IMHO.

Probably not.

I doubt Exum falls that far down.
If Orlando like Smart more than Exum, I could certainly see Exum also dropping behind Vonleh.
Steve Kyler and Chad Ford say they don't.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If Gordon goes fourth I'll eat my shoe.
Magic go for Exum, Vonleh or trade down whoever falls at fourth to get more assets.
Gordon MIGHT get picked pick 8 or 9. I think he's got Bobcats written all over him.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Im praying the magic take Gordon.  But if they do and Jazz take Vonleh, Do we draft Embiid, smart, or randle? In that case I would hope we have the 7th or 8th pick as well in a rondo trade.

It would be a great story if his surgery were to rejuvenate his game.

If Gordon and Vonleh go ahead of Embiid, this is really a best-case scenario for Boston. Gordon and Vonleh have to be high on the Cs radar, but if they are gone, then they really don't have to 2nd guess themselves with Embiid. I like Smart, but not sure he makes a ton of sense for this current team.

Gerald Wallace still plays with heart.

Kind of was annoyed by Wallace. Hate his contract. He bought me over.

I'd take Smart/Gordon + Nurkic over Embiid + whoever at this point. Trading up a few spots (from 17) for Nurkic will also be much cheaper than trading up from 6 to grab Embiid (as some have insanely suggested).

This draft is so deep with high-upside guys and this team has so many needs that the risks greatly outweigh the potential reward of Embiid at 6 or earlier. His bust potential is astronomically high at this point- far higher than his chances of ever reaching or even approaching his ceiling. Gordon's realistic worst-case scenario is a high energy role-player/great defender. His upside is nightly double-double/triple-double threat. He's basically a bird in the hand already, and could easily transform into two.

Dante Exum and TJ Warren would be a hellofa haul in this draft. Unreal. Both are supposed to be dynamos.
