I wonder if the Celtics are on that list.

I've long believed that Ainge and Morey had a handshake deal set up weeks ago, when Les Alexander was talking about "signing an impact player with our cap space."

Same. Lin would be a nice backup PG or 6th man, but not for that price tag. Can't really hate on him. I wouldn't turn down money, either.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I'm fine with taking Lin if it lowers the price tag on Asik, even to the point of gaining an asset from Houston for the trouble.

Yes, he's expensive. But he'd probably be the most capable backup PG the Celtics have had since . . . ? And, as an expiring, he could be packaged with a 1st rounder and other assets to get another piece.

Doubt there is any hand shake deal; too much else happens in between for a GM to be so stupid to get locked into that.

If we're taking back high salary contracts I'd hope we also get some picks out of it.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I agree.  I do bet there's some sort of contingent deal in place, which includes the contingency of "nothing better comes along for either team."  They've probably agreed on something, but both are still shopping around at this point, and making certain such a move makes sense after the draft and free agency.

In other news...Dallas Mavericks actively pursuing Pau Gasol in free agency.

What is it with Dallas pursuing former Lakers washed-ups? Especially their 3 of their starting 5 already. Look what happened with Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom lolol.

OT: Gasol is far from washed up he almost got an average of double-double last season.. Odom is really troubled after his lakers & divorce stint... Fish is old...

I dont mind Lin if we end up with Asik. He is just a 1 year rental, and if it means we pick up a little something extra (pick(s) from the Rockets for taking him.... even better.

Asik/Lin for the TPE works for both teams given the Celts need a big, and the Rockets need cap space for Melo. I'm not saying its a forgone conclusion, but it makes sense.

Only odd part about the tweet is that it says they'd only pull the trigger on the "teed up deal" if they get LBJ or Melo.... otherwise, they are going to keep them.

They'll probably move Asik either way. He was unhappy with the Rockets last year.

Maybe danny gets them to give us #25 in this draft for taking the contracts....we could draft Kyle Anderson there. I like him but he needs time to get in shape and get stronger and quicker.
