According to Dan Le Batard, who is pretty plugged in on the Heat:

* Main target this summer has been Ariza

* Never reached out to Lowry

* Made an offer to Lance Stephenson, but were quickly declined

Ariza would be pretty cool on the Heat if LeBron was willing to play PF full time. Get down in the paint and do the dirty work defensively and on the boards. Something he has been unwilling to do (full time) in the past. Preferring to stay at SF and letting Battier and Co do the hard physical wear and tear work.

Ariza makes sense as a Battier like replacement. After that the cupboard is gonna get bare for Miami. They would then be best served by bringing back Ray and Chalmers.

right...but what about the Birdman? and other bigs

A major benefit of being a championship favorite is that when free agents run out of option you get to pick up pieces at a discount. They already had Anderson for the minimum.

They might be able to grab Blatche, Hill, Kaman, Okafur, gooden, Brand, etc for low cost, as the dust settles in a month.

We got to benefit from bargain signings of Posey, PJ Brown, old Shaq.

Free agent Luol Deng intrigued with Clippers sign-and-trade possibilities, sources tell Yahoo. He's expected to speak with Doc Rivers today.

I don't see much that the Clippers can offer in a sign-and-trade.  Rather than take back Dudley and Barnes, the Cavs would be better off letting Dudley walk.

And Deng has been reported to not want to get any sort of paycut, so there has to be more going into it.

The inclusion of Redick?

But what would be the point of it... you're reducing talent (and if you receive a S&T player you can't use MLE and are hard capped).

So don't see the real motivation for the Clippers unless they think Deng would make that much more of a difference.

Cool. Meanwhile the freeze remains at the top. No star players have signed with a new team yet.

The small foward position was a glaring weakness in the Clip's lineup last season.  The step up from Dudley/Barnes to Deng is probably greater than the drop of from Redick to whomever they get to replace him.

I wonder if what happened to Beasley and Oden will influence any FAs.  I'm not saying they deserved any but neither got any run at all in Miami.  And having seen Mike Miller get jettisoned after helping Miami win two titles, how comfortable can you be signing with the Heat at a discount?

He would be great for the cHeat, hope he doesn't go there though. Lakers are screwed IMO they are getting no big names and Kobe is in a decline.  :)
