If we draft Embiid, and Love stays, we should be able to have the cap space to sign Love as a FA in 2015, without giving up any assets, as well as Rondo.  A team starring Rondo, Love and Embiid, with Green, Sullinger, Olynyk, Bradley and our 17th pick

How are you going to get Love without Sully or Oly?  Do you expect them to give him to us?  One or both those guys will be in the deal most likely.

No, he said he wants to use cap space in 2015 to sign Love when he leaves Minnesota as a free agent.

If the Love trade talks between GS and Minny are dead, that's good news for the Celts for more than one reason.

1.) It makes the Celts that much more of a favorite to land Love with one less suitor.

2.)Let's say Flip isn't bluffing and does hang onto Love for the 2014-15 season.

Then, the Celts can go after Love in free agency next year and would've gotten him without having to trade anything.

3.)Let's say Flip hangs onto Love for now and deals him before the trade deadline in February: I would think the Celts would still be in the mix and they wouldn't have to give up as much because Love will only have half a season left on his deal before he can opt out.

And Love would probably jump at the chance to play with such a strong team with such a young nucleus.  Heck, Lebron may be tempted to join us instead!!

Very good point. I mentioned the following in a previous post as kind of a follow up

You can keep your Love, Minnesota. But you will regret it by the end of this coming season. Lose him for nothing!!  ;D

Heck, go for Durant.  ;D

I can't believe Minnesota is playing hard-ball. That's probably the worst option of them all for them.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

So we will have the whole Denver melo situation all over again with love and minny. That was bad for all teams involved last time (nuggets nets and Knicks) from a distraction standpoint. Likely won't help Boston GS or Minnesota.

complete posturing by GSW. I'm sure they will try to push the deal of Lee and Thompson on Minny last minute!

So, Flip is playing a really dangerous game here...If Minnesota is going with the whole "These deals will still be there in February" idea, that could be the silliest thing I've heard.

No, Flip, these deals might not be there in February...The Celtics could find another trade partner, their picks could end up being beasts and they keep them...That's only two of the 500 possibilities that could happen from now, until February.

If you know you're losing Love, then you deal him now...You CAN'T assume that anything that is there today will be there tomorrow...That's bad management.  Not to say I'd be surprised......

I've said from the start, if we were dealing with a competent gm this deal would be done by now.

flip is playing a game he's not equipped to play.

these teams that supposedly have better players than us only matter if Minn. has the ability to acquire a superstar to go along with these players. which they don't. no FA superstar is willingly going there(to go play with Klay Thompson (or even Sully/Oly for that matter)). trading for a superstar may happen. but what else after Love do they have to offer? and that's even if a superstar says he'll stay there if he does get traded there or even agrees to go there in the 1st place.

imo, Minn. only option is to build through the draft. I just don't think Flip realizes this. esp. considering he seems to be aiming for the "8th seed" next yr.

noticing that Felger is quiet because he doesn't know SQUAT about Basketball. Hopefully there's less Hockey talk and more BBall talk.
Felger is out today :)
Even Better...I really hate him spewing quasi bball talk!

Well, hating him is what he wants us to do, so I just don't listen to him.  Don't give him the attention.  The guy can't even say Larry Bird correctly - he always says 'Lurry Bird'  ::) haha.  I think he's gotten better, but still, he's a tool.  Same thing as ESPN - football, football, football, football, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, baseball, baseball, baseball, baseball, you 'green teamers' are ridiculous, rinse and repeat  ::)  It's not the sport that puts me off of football (for the most part), it's the 24/7 365 entertainment tonight and tmz-like coverage of it.  Who attended the non-mandatory summer mini camps, and why?  Does this mean that so and so is holding out for a contract?  Tom Brady reportedly has a cold, how will this affect his performance in today's game?  Let's go to our csnne patriots insider Tom E. Curran - "I'm being told that he took a normal dosage of nyquil before bed."  Fascinating!  Please, tell me more!  ::)  Didn't that happen last year and then the patriots lost?  I'm surprised someone like Mike Giardi, or Miss Piggy's boyfriend, Joe Haggerty, didn't say, "Nyquil?  Before a big game.  That's obviously why they lost today.  He should have taken Robitussin.  Ain't no fussin with the tussin," ;D  Idiots.

If the goal of the owner is to maximize the chances of the team making the playoffs next season, it makes sense to hold on to Love.  I also think Saunders legitimately believes that Love isn't guaranteed to leave, so holding on to Love and trying to make the playoffs might be the team's best shot at having a top ten player on their roster in the decade beyond next season.

They're hoping that Rubio, Dieng, and Muhammad improve, that Pekovic and Budinger are healthy, and that they get a contributor with the 13th pick.  Also, they are probably operating under the belief that they have gotten an upgrade over Rick Adelman.  It may require some bad luck on the injury front for a team currently above them, but I don't think it is a ludicrous notion that they might make the playoffs next season with Love.

At the end of the day, Flip Saunders needs to get his owner's sign-off and it's not the same situation that Danny has with ownership here in Boston.  Glen Taylor is cut from the same cloth as James Dolan of the NYK, Dan Gilbert of the Cavs, and Donald Sterling late of the Clippers.  They are all meddlesome owners and they are all incompetent when it comes to running a sports franchise.  We've had the same situation here in Boston before with our Patriots being one of the biggest jokes in pro sports for years.

It's well within the realm of possibility that the T-Wolves will screw this up as they have done numerous times before under different GMs.

And is a first round playoff loss, possibly a sweep, supposed to change Love's mind about staying?  A bunch of teams are setting themselves up to have cap room for the next offseason.  Does Minny really want to be somebody's NOT going to offer him a max deal to leave?

Kevin Love clearly wants to come here. He made that message clear when he made a super public trip everywhere in boston wearing no timberwolves gear, only olympics gear.
