I would love to get Love, but I really hope we can get it done without including Kelly.  Give them Sully instead.

Sullinger is better/has higher potential than olynyk IMO. If you can get Love and keep sullinger I do that.

BUT both their skill-sets are kind of redundant together.

I feel exactly the opposite.  I prefer Kelly's skill set, and I think he'll be a better long-term player.  Only time will tell, though.  I suspect they'll both be in the league for a while and it won't be an open and shut case, either way.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I don't think you quibble about whom the Wolves want, you just let them pick.

Since the offer had Olynyk, I assume that is whom they asked for.

We need to keep one or the other to package along with our remaining picks for a third star.

Lee, Barnes and Klay is better than 6, 17 and Oly... its not even close, really.  Would need more

People keel throwing Barnes into the deal, but his name was not mentioned as of yet. Quite a few seem to think GSW would deal one or Klay/Barnes but not both.

At the very best swapping Love/Martin for Klay/Lee is a lateral move - and you have to hope Klay can respond well to be the #1 option for it to even be a lateral move. I just don't think that deal gets them into the playoffs as they supposedly hope.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

It could be that or just Ainge is holding firm for who he is not letting go similar to when he wouldn't include Rondo in the KG deal.

So far, according to a source, they have offered the Nos. 6 and 17 picks in this years draft, Kelly Olynyk and one of their own future No. 1 picks. They also own two more first-rounders from the Nets and one from the Clippers after this season, and the Celts are said to be certainly willing to discuss different combinations of their assets.

Bullpet just reported this via the Herald

This offer makes a lot more sense than Oly/Sully + both 2014 1sts + 2 Brooklyn 1sts that we kept hearing about.  Wonder if that's the "offer" Minnesota leaked to drive up the price.

It's a good first offer by Ainge. I see us adding either Sully or Bradley and taking back Martins contract

He needs to involve a third team. Get veterans. I don't think we can match the package of Thompson lee and filler. Lee is an all star caliber big and Thompson is a top five shooter who isn't even that close to sniffing his prime.

If Minnesota didnt make the playoffs with love, they certainly arent making the playoffs with lesser players IMO

So if this trade went through, the Wolves would have six picks in this year's draft. That has tremendous value that they could conceivably use to move up in the draft, and in general it would give them more flexibility in terms of moves that they can make. The Warriors don't have a single pick in this year's draft, so by accepting their deal the Wolves would ultimately be short-sighted.

Better for the immediate mediocrity Flip seems to be gunning for, not for the long term future of the franchise.

Wow.  The opportunity cost is the 6, a couple of middling first rounders and Olynyk and/or Sullinger. Yeah, thats gonna bring a team out of the cellar.  Accept it, mediocrity or not, Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson are both young, proven, and just plain better.

You're missing the point. If they take the GS offer they'll be in the hunt for a playoff spot, nowhere near contending. Their best player will be 25 or so and is, what, a top 30-40 player in the league if you're lucky? Where does that leave the franchise?

If they take the Celts offer they'll have a young player (not a star, but a decent player), the #6 pick in the draft, (probably a future first as well) and they'll be bad enough that they'll have their own top draft picks for the next couple of years. Considering their own picks as well, would you rather the the Wolves with Thompson and Barnes and 12-16 range picks in the next couple of drafts or the Wolves with KO, the #6, and picks in the 3-6 range for the next couple of years?

Not to mention that Thompson probably pulls a Love when his contract is up.

Kevin Love would be gone in a year. California is the only place he truly wants to play. His whole family is from there, he went to college out there. Not to mention the lack of marketing dollars in Boston as well as the weather are big reasons not to come. Franchise truly hasn't been at its peak since Bird. Sure they went to the finals 2 out of 3 years with KG but that isn't a dynasty like the 80's Celtics. How do you get there? DRAFT PICKS!

Trading for Love and signing Melo are band aids and short cuts. Only a youth movement will lead the C's back to being that dominant dynasty. Right now in terms of prestige they are certainly behind the LA's and Miami's of the world. They would probably be behind the Texas teams because of the lack of state tax. This is why in free agency they cannot and will never compete.

If you're a 26 year old where would you like to spend your winters? Shoveling snow in Waltham or sitting on a beach in Key West or LA watching the parade of girls go by.

It's not rocket science on why FA's will never decide to come to Boston on their own.

A couple of things you're missing. One, Love is clearly interested in playing in Boston. Two, our odds of bringing LeBron or Durant as a free agent are probably close to our odds of building a dynasty through DRAFT picks. The odds on any of our draft picks turning into a player of the level that you're dismissing as additions to the team are low at best.

I think it boils down to the Wolves having no desire to rebuild yet again when they've been out of the playoffs for a decade now, and hoping Thompson and/or Barnes (if they can get him) will blossom into a legit elite star.

It's a long shot, especially since Klay and Barnes would probably flee town ASAP, but I can see why they'd rather go that route than sell "this time bottoming out will pay off!" to a frustrated fan base.  Plus it's difficult to apply "rational actor" thinking to Minnesota's front office even in the best of situations.
