Well Chad Ford says that Flip is realizing that the C's might have the best offer:

Well, that makes me happy ;D
that seems like way to much to give up for Love.  I mean 6, 17, Sully/Oly, plus future firsts.  That is a king's ransom for a player that is not a king (and may not even be a queen).

I don't think so.

I view it as, you're trading pieces which may or may not be good for a player who is already good.

The other team (in this case, Minnesota) gets quantity while the Celts get quality (ala the KG trade.)
Yeah, but the quantity is mostly known.  This isn't like the Deron Williams, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, KG, etc. trades where the draft picks are all in the future and could be anything.  I mean look at what Boston gave up for Ray Allen, the 5th pick in a very weak draft, a young PG in West, a future 2nd, and the old broken down contract of Wally.  Boston also picked up an early 2nd rounder that year (which was Glen Davis).  Now don't get me wrong Ray Allen was much older than Kevin Love and Love should get more in return, but not a king's ransom which is exactly what 6, 17, future firsts, and Sully/Oly is.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

It comes down to one question. Do you think Rondo will demand out if the C's don't add an impact veteran this offseason?

doesn't matter, like I said in my previous post they tried trading him at the deadline and there were no takers.

if there really is no market for him then he has a chance at not making as much money as he could here.

Rondo has never made a claim to desire max money. A quick google search shows everyone talking about max money being what Rondo wants appears to be coming from bloggers and not plugged in basketball reports

He has said publicly he doesn't like change  and loves Boston

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4713122/rondo-leftovers-i-want-to-win-now

He declined an extension, which Ainge thought he would in January but that has more to do with length of contract than anything else. It also explains why he wants to get to UFA because then the team can offer him maybe his career contract, a 5 year deal. Given his kids are now in school in Boston and he loves his home and neighborhood and hates change, it makes sense that Rondo would go to UFA and then get a fair 5 year deal. He gets his long term security, Boston gets a bit of a discount away from a max deal.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/25/rajon-rondo-offered-contract-extension-by-celtics-says-he-wouldnt-mind-finishing-his-career-in-boston/

I don't see any way Rondo is traded anytime soon. He is Celtics now and that is important to this franchise. Ainge will elect to build around Rondo rather than trade him and try to win a dog fight with puppies

Well stated.  TP

Love the line about trying "to win a dog fight with puppies."  Nice.

I think a lot of it is wishful thinking from some bloggers to justify his exit from the Celtics.

Ian.... ::)

That guy really doesn't like Rondo.
Used to love his stuff on Sports Illustrated for years until the moment he was on a T.V. spouting some clearly bias purely opinionated stuff about Rondo.

He predicted R.R. was too immature to be on The Celtics without K.G. or Paul and that Danny and co were waiting for the meltdown to use as an excuse to trade him (ignoring the fact that such a meltdown would melt his trade value)...causing my wt_? moment :o

No idea he was a Rondo hater till that interview. He couldn't even hide it....and I wasn't even looking for it. Like I said...till that moment I was afan cuz he was a print guy in my mind but seeing him talk and the loathing in his voice for Rondo really blew me away.

The guy is forever tool.

Almost a year ago...according to Ian Rondo was gone. Maybe if he says it every year he'll be right sooner or later.

Not so fast. This was from the very credible David Aldridge and prior to him being named to a single all-star team.

http://www.nba.com/2009/news/10/26/rondo.extension/

The meeting between the Celtics and Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, came after two weeks of relatively amiable discussions about the parameters of a new deal for the 23-year-old Rondo, who has become one of the league's better young point guards despite periods of occasional drift and clashing with Coach Doc Rivers. But the discussions haven't yet led to a consensus on how to pay Rondo in a potential five-year deal. Rondo and Duffy are seeking a maximum or near-max contract that would pay him between $80 and $85 million; the Celtics are loath to put anything near that much into Rondo, given their existing expenditures for star players like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

2009 and before his last contract.

I'm not sure how pertinent that is to what is going on in 2014 although, I guess, you couldn't quite dismiss it, either.

I have a hard time seeing this as an argument that he'll be demanding a max contract in 2015.

Not so credible in this case:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/celtics-rondo-55-million-extension-081000953--nba.html

"Duffy said he called Celtics president Danny Ainge on Sunday to inform him Rondo was prepared to play out his contract and become a restricted free agent next summer because they weren?t satisfied with the team?s previous offers. Ainge, however, surprised Duffy by responding that Rondo?s contract hopes would be met.

?As much as we were willing to wait his contract out, the Celtics stepped up to the plate to meet the original request,? Duffy said by phone"

This was widely reported at the time. The Celts made an offer of somewhere around $45M, Duffy said no, so they met his asking price. That was nowhere near a max deal.

If we can't get Love then it's possible he sends rondo somewhere like Utah for their 5th pick, or Sacramento for their lotto spot

If we deal with utah then I see us making a move for Hayward as well.  Not ideal by any means but Stevens loves him.

Wait.  How is it credible that Aldridge claimed back then they were looking for 80-85M, when he actually _signed_ for 55M?

If Duffy was really and truly asking for THAT much, and ended up missing by that margin, then why on earth would Rondo not have fired him?

More likely, Aldridge just made up those numbers out of thin air.

Aldridge has been called out for questionable journalistic ethics before (in regards to how he covered the lockout and negotiations between the NBA and the Player's Association):

Yeah, this sounds like how I remember things happening.

From these comments, it sounds pretty clear that what Duffy & Rondo asked for was, indeed $55M, not the 80-85M that Aldridge claimed.
