I know this is a hypothetical team but one that may actually have a chance of happening.  A follow up question could be that if the team is not as good as you want right away, what would it need to make the leap up a couple of notches?

Second round win. Replace AB with someone else and we are a contender.

Kevin Martin with AB as the third guard would really solidify things without having the risk of Gordon's health and contract...but yes, somebody of his caliber.

I agree, I think this should be a 2nd round winning team in the east, which I guess makes them an ECF contender, but that sounds a little optimistic.

I think they have a shot at competing in the ECF. Add one more star and it's championship or bust.

Playing near perfect? Title contender..IMO.

I say this because Jeff Green would be the key, here.

He has proven that as long as he has other stars on the floor around him, he plays GREAT at times off of them and can indeed take over games...we'd need him to do this in order to contend.

If not, then we'd need that bonafide 3rd star....but again, to me - Jeff Green has proven that he can carry a team in stretches as that 3rd scorer...and he can be explosive.

He does it ALL in this vid...he's moving the ball...taking players off the dribble....running the floor (Man, that's going to be SO EASY with those outlet passes from a certain player we all LOVE.... :) )

He's also playing DEFENSE in this clip..he's all over the place.

I know some will disagree, and that's ok. But again - to me - as long as he has OTHER stars around him, he can/will make our opponents pay for it.

that starting lineup with a solid bench could get to the ecf, imo.

I pick ECF Contenders..the bench would be a key factor..like to see who would be on the bench
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

East is weak..

They would be in he playoff s

Just depends on a ton of factors how far they would go.

Well put it this way.....

Love would definetly make the playoffs with C's.....which is better than Minn.

I think .....trading Wallace away , using his cap space to bring in another great player is necessary to beat the Heat.

If Boston gets Love then , they are right in the thick of things once again. But it will take a couple more years to get the right players to join the team .

It's not a surefire title contender, but it's definitely a team that would have the potential to be very good for a few seasons.  You need a purer shooter at the 2-guard spot; ideally, AB would be the bench sparkplug.

If you've got Asik, you've probably got Jeremy Lin so you've got a little bench offense.  KO would likely be around - or if you want to blaspheme, he might be a guy you could use in a trade for a 2-guard.  Crash Wallace as the 8th man is about right; you could do worse.  The bench wouldn't be too bad.  I'm assuming Bass is gone, but a re-signed Hump would be a nice depth big man.

So, pretty good starting lineup.  Pretty good bench.  Pretty good balance, I think, with the exception of being maybe one shooter short.  But, that's something they should be able to rectify.

And, the key players are all still in their 20s; they should have a couple seasons to build chemistry, make tweaks, etc.

It's legit for the east. Wouldn't beat the thunder or spurs. Could be an interesting matchup against the clippers

To the question, this is a playoff team in a shaky east.

I don't see how Jeff Green and Avery Bradley are made better by Love/Asik. Sure the team is better, but, one or both would be best as the back ups at the 2/3 spots.

Not to the question, but at this suggested roster? Ainge is not going to blow his marbles to assemble this group....imo.

Rondo, Green, Bradley as the back court? I just don't see it. Major games on major stages against top playoff teams are not going to be won with that back court and Ainge knows this.

I think Bradley is poised to improve whether or not the Celtics acquire Love/Asik.  Green benefits by not being the first option on offense any more.  I think it will be very likely that they both post career highs in 3P%, and more than 50% that at least one does, if Ainge can get Love and Asik.

I suspect that, despite Love's issues with defense, putting Asik beside him makes the Celtics a likely top-five defense and that Love and a healthy Rondo will lead to at least an average offense if the bench isn't horrible.  I think that is a recipe for a possible contender.

After watching the Heat in the finals?

The East is ripe for the picking. Just pairing Love and Rondo is key IMO. And building a deep team around those two might be a better option than adding a 3rd star.

A sign and trade of Bradley and a future first for Afflalo would be my ideal situation at the current time.
