Maybe this is a sign that the deal for Love is already in place

Nothing is in place until the draft unfolds. What if miraculously Embiid slipped to us at 6?  We would not give up the pick without first knowing what we are giving up. It could be tentatively put in place, with contingencies, though.

Great draft to trade back into the 2nd round. When you have an overhyped draft as big as this, a lot of talent will be left behind. There will be plenty of good players sitting there in the 2nd. Ainge is the right man to have in a draft like this. He'll find the sleeper & spend the penny for the dollar all day.

Maybe confirmation bias on my part but I feel like this signals that the first round picks have been dealt, and the 2nd rnd picks offer a cheap way to bring in some guys whose ceilings may be low, but can be rotation players immediately for cheap. Guys like McGary, Markel Brown, Cory Jefferson; maybe no team particularly covets them but they all have a decent chance to be solid pros.

Re: McGary, rumor is he has a promise from a team in the 20s. I think he canceled workouts for some teams.

Please explain why we should. Is he a bad player? Will he be gone by the second round?

There's a bunch of guys worth trading down for. Every year there's some guys who are drafted in the second round or undrafted who becomes good players think about Deandre Jordan & Linsanity. Guys like Jarnell Strokes, Russ Smith, Marble, Johnny O'Bryant all deserve a shot.

For this years draft its going to takemore than just cash to buy a 2nd round pick
ITwo years of tank talk and ping pong ball hope in a competitive Boston sports market, can not be good for the Celtics when it comes to the ticket buying fanbase.

Gotta keep those people happy too, after all.
Did you go to a game last year? It was filled...every single game.
Bit difficult since I live in Tampa but I was there from '76 through 2012. When the team starts to go bad it takes time for the season ticket sales to go down since renewals are usually done the year prior to going bad. Of course, being a reporter on the Celtics, you knew that already.

may also be looking for cheaper replacements for Babb, Johnson, etc. if Danny needs to pare down the payroll to make room for 1 or 2 max contracts, this may be part of the formula. lots of data. the key is how to interpret it all.

I don't know why this signals anything other than Danny's due diligence.

It seems like 2nd rounders are often moved in spur of the moment deals - maybe a team wants someone at 42 and their guy gets snagged at 38, so they offer up the pick to the highest bidder.

Danny needs to be prepared for this kind of thing, at least in terms of knowing the available value throughout the draft. He's probably building his draft list 50-60 players deep.

It probably means that Ainge has specific guys he his interested in who are likely to be available in the second round.  It probably means that Phil Pressey and Chris Johnson are considered very replaceable.

Could we trade down with Charlotte and get another pick and move down?

I've gotten myself excited about several of Ainge's second rounders but really, who was the best one?  Ryan Gomes and Leon Powe?  I'm not very excited about second round picks anymore.

Yeah, I mean he does a nice job with his choices, but not so nice that the player becomes non-expendable. Last year we were all excited that he bought a 2nd round pick so he could select Iverson - that was hardly a game-changer for us. 2nd round picks are fun at the time, but not a lot should be expected of them. Tbh, Pressey, Johnson, and [to some extent] Faverani were much better pick-ups.

Btw, Big Baby would have to be his top 2nd round selection.

James McAdoo - don't sleep on this kid :)

Not spectacular...but can do a LOT of things very well. Smart kid.

I'd love for BOS to grab this kid in 2nd round.

If Jeff Green frustrates you, putting McAdoo on the same team could make you suicidal.
